Choi Kang-hee, Lee Dong-gun as possible love interests for tvN romance
by javabeans
Casting has begun on Heart to Heart, the new drama from Coffee Prince director Lee Yoon-jung, who recently made the jump from broadcast television to CJ E&M; she resigned from MBC in May, and this’ll be her first project for tvN. The two actors currently in consideration for the leads are Choi Kang-hee (Level 7 Civil Servant) and Lee Dong-gun (Mi-rae’s Choice).
According to a rep from tvN, Choi Kang-hee has been extended the offer and given the script. Some reports state that she’s given her verbal agreement, so it sounds likely that the casting will happen although things are, as always, not yet official.
Heart to Heart is a “medical romance and mental healing drama” set in a psychiatric ward. The heroine has a face that gets red without her control and thus goes around disguised as a grandma. (Is that really her only option?) Huh, well one part of that sounds like Crush and Blush and another part sounds like It’s Okay, It’s Love; how many Gong Hyo-jin projects will this resemble?
Meanwhile, the hero is a psychiatrist who lives in hiding following the death of his older brother, and the story will depict his struggle to overcome that trauma.
Despite having other projects since Coffee Prince ended seven years ago (see: the disappointing Triple), PD Lee is always referenced as “the Coffee Prince director,” and considering that drama’s stature in dramaland (a classic almost from the start) and the high praise for her breezy, introspective touch, I can see why there’s buzz about her next endeavor. We still lack some important details about Heart to Heart’s plot so it’s difficult to picture what the drama will be, but I do look forward to seeing how it’ll unfold in PD Lee’s hands.
Heart to Heart is planning for a January 2015 launch on tvN, although it hasn’t yet been scheduled.

I like Lee Dong Gun and I'm happy that he's considering his next show after the disappointing MiRae's Choice..
But...Choi Kang Hee...I don't know...I did like her in Protect The Boss but she is one of those actresses who just dial down my excitement for any project if cast...

Wow. You read my mind. Him I love, her, she never seems to connect to her leading man. I loved Protect the Boss, but I didn't really like her ib it. I'll have to wait and see with this drama.

I couldn't watch beyond the first episode of Protect the Boss and Level 7 Civil Servant because of her overacting, despite my love for joo won :(

The acting, the voice... Choi Kang Hee is nothing if not grating.
But the concept sounds kind of cute so I may check it out anyway.

Actually this is such a blatant rip off that I'm completely turned off just by the thought of it, which is unfortunate because I do like the actors.

I've heard that LDG has already declined this drama. Also, everyone piling up on the psychiatry bandwagon cracks me up: Indeed, thank you IOTL...
The uncontrollable blushing thingy has already been done (an episode of Good Doctor & other medical shows) & I'm not sure it's enough to design a character interesting.
The "I'm undercover as a grandma" is the only original thing here. I really need more than that to be interested, even if stars are cast.

Re LDG:
His own brother was murdered and he struggled for years to overcome the grief. That part about the male lead struggling for years to over the trauma of his murdered brother would hit way way too close to home for him. It may be in bad taste to offer him such a role at all.
I don't see how he can do it.

wait what??? I googled it too! unbelievable! that's so cruel!! I would even say disrespectful of them!! if they did know about it of course, but if they didn't then they are too irresponsible!!! don't they do research of the actors before they try and cast them?

i don't think he could act as someone with emotional problem, i always watch him in stereotype charracter, i never amaze with his acting, he just so so for me, i like his drama lovers in paris n Stained glass but he's forgetable there, i cry so much during Stained glass because of the other male actor Kim sung soo not him

I disagree. I thought his acting have always been very good.
Love his acting in When It’s At Night, Stained Glass (but not the show) and Changing Partners. He outshines Lee Jin-wook by a mile in Smile Again.
It's just that he tends to choose projects that are not very memorable. Except for Changing Partners and When It’s At Night (I did not watch lovers in paris ) the rest are quite forgettable.

I think I agree with you. He needs to choose good projects. Really loved him in When it's at night and Smile Again.
I was so excited when he got back from Army, but ended up choosing Miraes Choice :(
From the synopsis I knew it wouldn't go anywhere (and I was right) so I did not watch it. This one does not sounds too exciting either to be honest... I really wish I will get to see him in a good drama soon... He is a good actor.

I remember it was when he was filming "When It's At Night/Night After Night" (I think he actually went back and finished filming after it happened, which must have been TOUGH). It was on the news at the time, but I didn't realise at the time that it was LDG's little brother. Tragic beyond words.
As for tvN offering him this role: the words "insensitive" and "lazy" come to mind...

Is the FNC entertainment partner with TvN now? Starting from reality show Cheong Dam Dong 111 than Hong Ki's drama, Yong Hwa and now Lee Dong Gun. I never watch drama from TvN before but I start cuz of Yong Hwa and I found many really good drama from this channel. I like LDG too and I want him to be success in this project. I'll be waiting...

Yes, I've been wondering what's happening with LDG, since his FNC labelmates are pretty busy in tv now.
I know he's been doing concerts and stuff, but I'd love to see him back on the small screen!

I'm just wondering whether blushing is really such an issue in Korea, where the cosmetics&make up industry is so well developed and actually quite a trend setter on a global scale. Not to mention aesthetic medicine in an extreme case...

So is the new trend in dramaland to do remakes, cover the news world and issues surrounding mental health? It seems as if most upcoming dramas falls under any of those three categories and with very little room left for originality and creativity.
And I echo the sentiments regarding this casting news and plot.

....I've seen both Crush & Blush, and IOIL.
Neither of them will work without Gong Hyo-jin, and I hope Lee Dong-gun passes on this too (though he certainly deserves better for a comeback project than the mess that was Mirae's Choice)

when I read the title of the article, I was like NOOOOOOoo... I want LDG to have an awesome comeback.
I dont know how Choi Kang Hee can always get cast with younger actors. I didnt watch L7CS because of her, eventhough how much I love Joo Won acting. =.= And, I hope it does not happen again with LDG next anticipating comeback.

Can't say that any part of this sound enticing. I can (usually... maybe.... sometimes) forgive a ridiculous premise if the actors are good or vice versa, but ya gotta give me something. Don't like her, and I think all of my goodwill towards him comes from my tendency to mix him up with Kim Ji Hoon (who I like very much). Silver lining I guess being that I won't have to wonder if I should watch or not.

I absolutely adooooore Lee Dong Gun but totally dislike Choi Kang Hee!!! the only drama that she's been on that I liked was Protect the Boss and that was because of super hot and sexy Ji Sung where as with LDG I loved absolutely every single drama except for the finale of Mirae's Choice... what a horrible mistake just because Younghwa's fans where boycotting things!!!
ok back with the ever overacting CKH!! I hope she doesn't take it!!! I reaaaally don't want her next to LDG!!! Oh please kdrama gods help us with a good casting!!!!!

I liked Choi Kang Hee in Petty Romance, so that's fine with me, as long as she doesn't sport that bowling cut hairstyle again.
Fully support LDG in a proper comeback role - just not sure that this is it.
Or that CKH is the lady for him. Oppa, fighting!!
