Han Chae-ah considers lead in new daily It Must Be Love
by awcoconuts
Han Chae-ah (All About My Romance, Oohlala Spouses) is in the final stage of negotiations to lead an upcoming KBS daily drama called It Must Be Love. If she takes it, this would be her first leading role, and while it’s not confirmed yet, her agency and a source close to the family describe the actress as being the most drawn to this offer amongst several current proposals.
The drama will tell the story of a group of people living under a single roof, following the current trend of a “share house” full of roommates. It will hone in on the relations between those who share the home and form an extended family. In it, Han will play a cable-channel-PD-turned-market-merchant. She’s described as a bright, cheerful woman who cares deeply for her father — she’s the ultimate daddy’s girl.
In Mi-rae’s Choice, Han was one of those rare second leads I really rooted for (one of the show’s few redeeming qualities), and I enjoyed her endearing performance. Good for her for being touted as a potential lead for a daily network show.
It Must Be Love will air after the conclusion of My Dear Cat, in January of 2015.

AW I love her. I stumbled upon this random family drama a while back and she had this adorable love-line with Jo Jin-woong. I think she'll be wonderful in this!
And I love this premise!

I freakin adored Han Chae Ah in Mirae's Choice. Her character, Yoo Kyung was adorable and she just nailed that role. I fangirled so much over her . The girl is just too damn gorgeous :)
So yeap I am really really happy for her to be cast as main lead !

So how are Korean daily shows? I've never watched one. Are they like long ongoing sitcoms ala Friends? Or soaps like General Hospital?
After Gaksital I thought I'd see her a lot more often on primetime dramas. She is talented ánd got the looks.

They air in the morning or during early evenings and typically run for 100-150 episodes. They tend to be slow-paced and packed with many different characters (you might need to have a relationship chart in handy, especially since several plotlines might run in a single episode).
Most daily dramas are in the family drama genre, although the KBS morning drama slot (TV Novel) belongs to the period drama genre (they are set in the 1940s-1980s). MBC used to air daily sageuk, but they discontinued it, probably due to the cost.
Daily dramas have earned a bad reputation due to tired, cliched plot (they mostly focus on adultery or birth secrets). A few good ones do exist. Personally, I'm fond of the ongoing "My Dear Cat" (which "It Must Be Love" will replace most likely in November, not January as reported). It's slow-paced, light and low-key, but despite its usage of cliched tropes, it still has its own identity and freshness. The characters are in no way paper-thin; all have their own set of flaws and redeeming values. Choi Yoon-young is such a delight in that drama and plays the awkward, quirky writer character very well.

I'm not that familiar with daily dramas, but I watched King's Daughter Soo Baek Hyang, because I heard so many good things about it and I totally recommend it! It's one of the daily sageuks by MBC that Dakchigo mentioned and was basically like a long historical drama just with shorter episodes (~30 mins), so you'd spend about the same time as when watching a ~50 episode sageuk.
The only other one I watched is Vampire Idol, which was like a sitcom where episodes can be watched more or less independently from each other (aside from the overarching story developments). Personally I found it hilarious, but it's also pretty low budget and not fully subbed yet, so lots of people will probably skip it.

It's her first lead role? Woah, although she maybe not the best actress in her generation but she's endearing and really deserves lead role, compared to talentless idols.

I don't know if it's because I'm short sighted but I totally mistook her for Park Min Young for a brief second...

I'm forever mystified about why some talented actresses like Han Chae-ah don't get lead roles. I've only seen her in Gaksital and I loved her in that, but judging by what everyone else says about her performances in other dramas, I'd say she's pretty consistent. Dailies aren't my thing (so loooong), but hopefully this leads to more lead roles for her if she takes it.

I know right??? And the lead roles go to the likes of Shin sekyung, Jin Seyeon, and untalented idols (I don't mind the ones who can act). It Boggles.My.Mind.

She's a good actress, I hope she gets even better roles after this.
It is ridiculous that actresses like her and Lee Yoon Ji have to wait till age 30 to get a lead role, while networks hand out lead roles like candy to idols who can't act and crappy non-actors like Shin Se Kyung /Jin Seyeon.

I am so happy for HCA. I love her when I first saw her in Mirae's Choice. She so cute and talented. I was hoping that would offer a lead role in her next drama. She deserves it.
