Kwon Sang-woo turns private eye for new movie
by javabeans
Kwon Sang-woo (Medical Top Team, Yawang) has confirmed his next project, which will take him back to the big screen for a mystery-crime movie titled Private Investigator. In it, the hero is a book rental shop owner with a passion for mystery novels who used to dream of being a police detective. So when his friends get caught up in a murder case, he jumps in to get to the bottom of it.
The project is based on a script that won in an open screenplay competition back in 2006, and the director will be Kim Jung-hoon of the risque rom-com Petty Romance. It’s difficult to tell from this description what kind of tone the movie will have—will it be dark and mysterious, or cute and funny?—but I’m hoping it skews lighter, because that description of Kwon’s character sounds quirky and amusing. And while Kwon is pretty comfortable cranking out high emotion and wringing tears in melodramas, I do like when he’s tackling a funnier role. If only because I think he’s cried enough in dramaland for two lifetimes. Give his tear ducts a break!
Private Investigator is currently at work filling the rest of the cast, and plans to begin filming in July.

I don't know why but I just don't like Kwon Sang Woo ever since and it didn't help that I hated MTT and Yawang. I hope this movie changes my impression and dislikeness of him because the story sounds awesome.

He was really endearing in Almost Love. Well at least for the most of the movie he was all funny and goofy and everything until they had to turn him in the saddest puppy around. Anyhow what I am trying to say is he can actually do romcoms better instead of wringing those crocodile tears in an entire drama.

KSW is very special to me. He's the first Korean actor I learned to recognize among others, who initially looked all alike. I know more his films rather than dramas , but I know for sure there is more to him than being THE original mumzzang.
Regarding the tone of this project, I would opt for mysterious and funny. I'm sure KSW can pull it off.

I've seen him stairway to heaven, then later on sad sonata. Me and my mom absolutely loved him in the former. Made a great couple with CJW. "Bogoshipda... Bogoshipda... Ireon naega miweoji angil.." Sadly, I didn't give a toss about QoA or MTT. Hope the movie is more light-hearted fare though.

You know, I was just thinking about Kwon Sang-woo. I haven't watched any of his recent projects and there hasn't been much hype to interest me. Good to hear that he's working on another project. Movie with Kwon Sang-woo? Count me in.
