Kim Myung-min, Lee Min-ki drop Himalaya
by javabeans
Bad news for the based-on-a-true-story Everest movie Himalaya, which first lost Lee Min-ki and now has also lost Kim Myung-min. Is there even any point anymore? (Serious answer: I’m thinking no.)
It appears the production is the trouble, with continued delays spurring the casting drop-outs. Lee Min-ki has already picked his next project, noir movie For the Emperor, while Kim Myung-min had waited, perhaps considering how he was cast early and had put in months of prep work. He’d even traveled to the Himalayas earlier this fall with the man whose life he was set to portray.
Despite having a ready-made human interest story (it’s based on the 2004 Mt. Everest expedition wherein a team member died on the mountain and the team captain fought tooth and nail to recover his body), apparently the production has been struggling with script issues, in addition to budget matters. A rep from production company JK Film stated that the movie isn’t folding, but that it’s on hold for now. Not a promising sign, is it?
Kim Myung-min is back on the market for new roles, while Lee Min-ki has wrapped thriller movie Monster and is set to begin filming For the Emperor.

Lee Go Eun and Anthony, one of my favourite k-drama couples! Seems so nostalgic even if it's only been one year. ;___;

Is it bad that I'm just hoping that this means both of them can find time to do another drama. I miss having hours of them being fabulous. Movies are nice, but dramas are my first love. And both have done some great dramas in the past.
It's crazy that Lee Min Ki hasn't been on the small screen since Shut Up. Miss him in the dramaverse.

I really miss Lee Min-ki in drama too. Not enough of him in Shut Up, we (or at least I) want more. :(

Too bad. It feels the role eminently suitable for KMM.

I suspect those script changes needed are a conflict between what really happened and some overly-dramatic moments that the writer or someone wants to put in.

Not surprising that Lee Minki dropped out. He's on crunch-time before military enlistment next year and he needs to maximize it by filming as much projects as he can to tide over his military service. He can't afford to wait on a movie that might not end up filming after all.

This is good news to me because Kim Myung-min likes doing his own stunts etc. He will insist on climbing the dang mountain and I was really worried.
I'm hoping that he will do a sageuk at some point. I've watched The Immortal Lee Soon-Shin too many times.

as expected of KMM, he even went to the Himalayas with the person he'll portray. /sigh/ I guess this film is losing a big asset with KMM gone. It's a pity cuz I think it'll be an interesting movie.
I love KMM in rom-com, but I prefer him in serious roles like he had in Deranged.
