Jo Jung-seok and Jung Jae-young cast to hunt down Hyun Bin
by girlfriday
Hyun Bin’s army comeback project has finally started casting other people, which is a relief. I know we missed him and all, but my love does not extend to one-man plays. The Joseon-era sageuk is called The King’s Wrath, and stars Hyun Bin as King Jeong-jo, at the height of political discord during his reign in the late 18th century. Hot-streak star Jo Jung-seok (You’re the Best, Lee Soon-shin) and go-to movie badass Jung Jae-young (I Am a Murderer) have joined the cast as a pair of assassins sent to kill the king.
It sounds like more of an action thriller than I was expecting, which is just fine by me. I’d rather see the king fight off assassins than give good speeches, though I fully expect some of those as well. Jung Jae-young plays a killer who goes undercover in the palace in order to get close to the king, but when he gets to know him, Jeong-jo actually inspires him so much that he starts to waver in his mission. That’s a really interesting conflict, and I already love the potential assassin-turned-loyal-soldier bromantic explosion waiting to happen.
It’s not a surprising turn, given that this is PD Lee Jae-kyu’s big screen debut, he of The King 2 Hearts’ heartwarming and soul-tugging king-and-soldier friendship (between Lee Seung-gi and Jo Jung-seok). I’m excited about his first film, and now more so because of the setup. Jo Jung-seok will be reuniting with the director, but this time he’ll be playing the other assassin — the badass mofo who’s trained for nothing but killing. But… look at that face. Is that the face of a killer?
So with one assassin’s loyalty wavering and another sent in Terminator-style, the king will have to decide whom to trust. Jung Eun-chae (Nobody’s Daughter Hae-woo) has also signed on to play an assassin’s first love. We don’t know which one, and I kind of hope it stays a mystery, if the romance has anything to do with the king’s survival.
The King’s Wrath starts shooting in August for a 2014 release.

Agreed. Jung Jae-young really is a fine actor, Seriously I've seen most if not all his works. Loved him especially in "Going By The Book" what a seriously hilarious movie. Also loved him in "Divine Weapon, Cast Away, Glove".
Now I just wish he would do a drama, I'm tired of only watching him in a hour and a half flick.

I LOVE Hyun Bin (I was afraid they would not let me into Korea because I kept giggling whenever he showed up in that advert they show at customs), but to have him paired up in a bromance with Jung Jae-Young?!?!?!? It's like the director went into my subconcious to find something that I didn't know I wanted. I'm not just excited for the movie but any character shots or BTS footage.

I am happy with the casting of the guys, not so sure about Jung Eun-chae though. Only know her from Nobody's Daughter Haewon and she didn't convince me in this movie at all. :/

This does sound like a great pairing. I'm a huge Binnie fan, and counted the months while he was away in the army. I have to say, though, that I'm a bit frustrated with how long we have to wait before seeing him in an actual comeback role. He'll essentially have been out of the acting world for over four years by then. The occasional CF just ain't gonna cut it for the Binnie starved. Pout.

You are not alone but I understand why he is well loved. He is not bad in the look or acting department. I prefer the other Bin "The Man From Nowhere".

"..a killer who goes undercover in the palace in order to get close to the king, but when he gets to know him, Jeong-jo actually inspires him so much that he starts to waver in his mission. "
So basically Tree with Deep Roots except with alot more heart. Something about that plot just gets so excited and ready for some emotional investment.
I'm sure this show is going to be gorgeous, as K2H was. K2H was one of those few shows that remained solid in camerawork/cinematography and was so beautiful until the very end, unlike some shows that look so gorgeous in the beginning and then start to lose the magic as the story progresses.
I do wish jo jung seok could instead play the assassin who starts to waver in his mission cause he'd act that character out to a tee. He's so good at playing the loyal bodyguard/soldier/brother/friend/etc..
I remember watching an episode of Happy Together and IU saying that the best advice Jo Jung Seok gave her was something along the lines of: whatever scene you act out, act with sincerity and heart. No wonder he does earnest so darn well. I still can't see him as a coldblooded assassin but i can see how this role would challenge him since it's a role he hasn't done before.

Sounds like that old movie with Jet Li...? Hero?
The last scene was him facing a rain of arrows because he decided not to kill the Emperor. (I think)
Let's hope JJS gets a better ending.
