Kim Nam-gil and Sohn Ye-jin consider reuniting on the big screen

Is it officially a reunion if their first onscreen outing hasn’t aired yet? Kim Nam-gil and Sohn Ye-jin already have a drama on the way with KBS’s revenge thriller Shark set to premiere in two weeks, but word is they’re also both considering the same movie, called Pirate. Wait, the movie’s got a nautically-themed title too? That’s a whole lot of redundancy. Now I want them to sign on, and follow it up with a drama remake of Moby Dick in 2014.
Pirate is the next project from writer Chun Sung-il, of Chuno and Level 7 Civil Servant fame. (And yes, that includes both the film and drama versions of Civil Servant, and no, I don’t want to talk about it.) The movie is being planned as a big blockbuster action sageuk, set in the Joseon era. And the plot sounds insane, so brace yourselves.
Around the time of Joseon’s founding, a whale ghost (or is it ghost-whale?) swallows a royal seal. Already I have questions, but we’ll keep going. The heroine is a pirate, and the hero is a bandit — the dry land kind, because the plot specifies the water/land dichotomoy — and they team up to go after this whale. So it kind of IS Moby Dick already, I guess. But their real battle is with other pirates, the truly heinous criminals who have been exiled to sea, who are also after the seal. So…who’s playing Jack Sparrow?
I’m looking forward to this pairing, but my eyebrow is up to *here* right now. Who knew two projects called Pirate and Shark could be so vastly different from one another? Pirate plans to start shooting in August, and Shark airs Mondays/Tuesdays starting May 27 on KBS.

Oh my goodness, until I read your comment I totally thought it was seal as in sea creature. I didn't even question it because, well, whale...though I did think it was odd that the king had a pet seal.

Wait a min. A whale dies and becomes a ghost = a whale ghost. That ghost swallows the king's seal. No, a ghost can't swallow a real object. So, it has to be the other way around: Someone dies and his ghost becomes a whale = a ghost whale. That whale swallows the king's seal. Got it!!! :D

I'd run away from Anyway written by the guy who came up with the drama version of Level 7 Civil Servant 5 years after having written its film original! I'm All for 2nd chances, but That level of incompetence doesn't get a 2nd chance to waste 20 hours of my life. Thanks but no thanks, whoever the stars maybe.

ok. definetely not talking about it. strictly in favor of not talking about it.
i lean towards giving a 2nd chance anyways. adventure-themed-thingies might just more be his thing. pirates hasnt been done before in korea - as far as i know- and i am always in for supporting something original.
