Lee Chun-hee stars in The Thousandth Man
by girlfriday
Aw, Chunderella, always good to see you in dramaland. Lee Chun-hee (Take Care of Us, Captain) will be starring in a Friday-night drama due out this summer on MBC called The Thousandth Man. The thousandth? Well I don’t know who this girl is, but whoooooheeee, that’s some number.
It’s unusual to have Friday night dramas, but this one is only 8 episodes long. It’s the perfect summer theme too: the drama is about a gumiho (supernatural nine-tailed fox) who has to eat a thousand men’s livers before she can become human. So after polishing off 999 livers, she goes in search of the last one, the thousandth man. Aw, poor Chun-hee. Couldn’t he be the 1001st?
The trick is, she has to get the men to all fall in love with her sincerely. She can’t just go eating the livers of men who don’t love her all willy-nilly, otherwise they don’t count. So she’ll be after Chun-hee to make him fall head over heels, with only three months left on her human-by-liver project. Kang Ye-won (Quick) is up for the role of the gumiho, named Gu Mi-jin. Er, way to almost be as clever as Gu Mi-ho. Just sayin’. But for 8 episodes, sounds like a good summer fling.
The Thousandth Man plans to air on Fridays starting mid-August on MBC.

His sunbae, Kim Soo Ro (currently Tae San in AGD) was like an evil stepmother. :)
Always ordering Chun Hee to pick vegetables, to wash things properly, etc.
Sometimes the other members pretend to be Kim Soo Ro and order Chun Hee around too, that's why they called him Chunderella.

One of the funniest moments ever in Korean variety show history is still the time when a student in a passing bus yelled out "No, Chunhee, nooooo!" (in reference to what Stepmother Kim would yell when Chunhee was doing something wrong, like washing vegetables w/ soap).
And then, of course, there is Chunderella always falling down at the most inopportune moments (or is it the most opportune moments?).

Seeing these comments makes me miss FO so much. All time favorite Chunderella moment when washes the radishes with soap. Kim Soo Ro's reactions is priceless LOL.

All the original FO members (including KJK who came in part way) were great.
And while Kim Soo Ro had his whole "Game Devil" persona (w/ the Darth Vader theme music) to go along w/ his "Stepmother Kim" persona, have to say that he was my least favorite member.
It's one thing to constantly wrangle one's way out of morning duties (poor YSJ who ended up doing it so many times), but KSR would always take the most and best food that was prepared, while YSJ would ensure that the guest and others ate well, even if it meant less for himself.
One time there were only 4 small fish prepared and KSR ended up eating most of it.
But anyway, who knew there could be so much humor and laughter when it came to preparing and eating food?

After watching jdramas, kdramas seem reaaallly long. I usually start to get fatigued around episode 12, unless it's a really good one.

That was my major problem crossing over to kdramas. jdramas with 8 ep at 40 mins each as opposed to 16 hour-long dramas. -_-'
But, now it seems standard.

Personally, after watching 40-episode long wuxia series, 8 doesn't seem that daunting. That said, a LOT of k-dramas would benefit from a j-drama treatment...
Imagine the world where all the angst would fit only into one fast paced episode, and the rest of the episodes were left for hijinks/shenanigans/general happy time. While I'm at it, I suppose I'll also show you all the unicorn that just jumped over my head, and the rainbow made of candy that I just slid across >.<;;
P.S. New name in honour of sun~

Chunderella! Yatta~
Sad thing is, I try to stay away from Summer Themed kdramas about Gumihos and stuff because they always end in the most unhappiest way ever imagined. Or, you know, it just has a sucky ending. X/

Ahhh, I heard about this and am excited. 8 episodes is a good solid number for a show like White Christmas and Misfits (UK show). Soooo, I will be there as long as there are subs. Which I will pray there will be!

Misfits! If they would just stop killing off my favorite characters!! UK Dramas are generally no more than 10. Love UK shows! They are my second passion after KDramas. Who needs American TV (exception True Blood, Game of Thrones)!

OK, so this is like 49 Days, except it isn't tears, it's your body.
And it isn't 3, it's 1000.
Or, and you die, but she lives and eats your liver.
OK
This is just like the Silence of the Lambs.
How romantic indeed?

The girl (or should I say gumiho) got some skills. She got 999 men to fall in love with her? ACTUAL LOVE???
This is someone that should be worshiped--by men AND women.
Shall we begin setting up the shrine?

Ooh! Sounds fun!?
Unfortunately, the only drama I've seen with Lee Chun-hee was Take Care of Us, Captain. Dreadful, that drama. But I did feel for his character (and mumbled countless times to myself how ***SPOILERS (if anyone even cares)*** dumb Goo Hye-sun's character is for not loving him back and him for not realizing sooner that there are many fish in the sea -- or in his case, the air traffic tower. Ugh. Yet, I've watched the whole darn thing. Whatever, drama.) and told myself to watch out for this guy for when he's in another drama that's gonna guarantee he gets the girl (yeah!)! So definitely looking forward to this one!
It actually sounds pretty intense (she's gotten ALL 999 men to genuinely fall for her? And then she has the heart to EAT THEIR LIVER??? Yikes.) and with only eight episodes, will it be similar to a movie more than a drama? I always thought that k-movies always had a dark vibe to it, even if it's meant to be rom-com. So I'm actually hoping for something similar to My Girlfriend is a Gumiho. I just want a happy ending for Mr. Lee Chun-hee!

I'm at first excited- thinking about shin min ha's or the hong sister's gumiho and then slightly apprehensive because this isn't a hong sister's gumiho. shin min ah was all kinds of light and innocence. I tend to find 8 episodes too little because those shows are usually really great.

Oooooooh! I love the premise!! I'm a sucker for this kind of dramas. I'm sure I will also fall in love with the drama once it airs. It doesn't star Lee Chun Hee for nothing. Hee hee. He was so adorable in Family Outing. Will be waiting patiently for this!
