Kim Jung-tae joins Dream High 2
by girlfriday
Okay, my interest in this drama just shot straight up. I mean, I know, the singing and dancing is the reason to watch, but the best things about the original Dream High were the runaway comedic performances by the teachers. And now, my favorite ajusshi star of late, Kim Jung-tae (Can’t Lose, Girl K) has been cast as the principal in Dream High 2. Cue dancing chorus of b-boys.
He’ll be playing Kirin’s new principal, who also happens to be an entertainment agency executive. Huh? Isn’t that kind of a conflict of interest? Not that reality has any place in this world, but that’s weird that a principal would be allowed to make money from grooming his students for stardom.
I suddenly can’t wait to see this drama now, because casting Kim Jung-tae gives me the assurance that the sequel won’t forgo the funny. If he recreates the trot singing lesson from Banga Banga for the kids, that might be my new favorite thing. And not to count him out of the performances, here he is, contributing to the Girl K OST:
Now JYP has to sign onto this drama for sure, because Kim Jung-tae needs a rival for sing-offs and dance-offs between the faculty members. Screw the kids’ rivalry. I wanna see THAT.
Dream High 2 is currently neck-deep in casting, and premieres January 30 on KBS.

Hey Drina,
I am just another avid reader of this blog like you and can understand the eagerness of wanting drama recaps ASAP. But it is time like this we must practice the art of patience!!
Wonderful Drama recappers like DB, GF, and Orangy are doing us the favour here.
May I suggest mysoju.com where you can view Korean dramas with english subs so you can understand the episodes and then come back to dramabean for the extra commentary on the episodes.

OT- but is there a special name for those glasses? I see that style everywhere. Seems to be part of that throwback trend.
That said, I agree that some of the best parts of DH were the teachers. I mean, Yoonji was absolutely adorable as a tough teacher with a girly heart. Her hairclip bit was hilarious.
I hope DH2 brings it because, certainly, there's a lot of competition!

Teacher Kang was the best! His presence will be dearly missed in Dream High 2.

I am definitely watching Dream High 2 LOL This just sealed the deal for me :) Kim Jung Tae has become one of my favorite ahjusshis after 1 Night 2 Days hehe I just hope it doesn't follow the same exact formula of Dream High 1 because that would be boring.

I love him! It's impressive how he doesn't allow himself to become typecast - his last four acting jobs have all been radically different and he's effortless in his grasp of the characters. DH2 is shaping up to be really, really good!
Also, I'm pretty positive that JYP was signed up a few weeks ago for DH2 - along with BYJ, those two are so far the only originals to be signed on.

wait, is BYJ that Hallyu star that played the principle in the first few eps? if so, I hope he disappears soon in this one too. I didn't start enjoying the show until he left. His presence was inexplicably irritating.
But yay for JYP.

Yeah, that was BYJ. It's going to be hard for him NOT to be in DH2, considering that he, and the company he owns, (KeyEast Entertainment) is the one responsible for creating and owning the original, and now the sequel....

Will they cast a female teacher who can sing and do kick-ass dancing like Kim Sori? It'd be awesome to watch!

I'm so excited for this! Dream High is one of the few shows for me where a sequel could actually work. I loved the original lots, and so far the casting looks good, and Yoona is occupied elsewhere so I don't have to worry about her being cast (sorry fans, just tired of seeing her face everywhere.) Hopefully it doesn't disappoint!
