Son Dambi and Ahn Jae-wook cast in Light and Shadow
by girlfriday
Upcoming MBC special 50th anniversary drama Light and Shadow has had drama veteran Ahn Jae-wook‘s name attached as the leading man for some time. Now he’s confirmed for the lead, and joining him is… Son Dambi? I thought at first they were paired together as leads which would be So. Strange. But it looks like she’s confirmed for the second lead. Ahhhhh… all is right with the world. It’s not so much the twelve-year age gap (that, I can stomach) but the…uh… acting gap that had me confused. But hey, I guess we’ve seen weirder pairings work before.
Kim Min-jong (Athena) and Nam Sang-mi (Life Is Beautiful) are the two stars in consideration for the other two leading roles, which makes a whole helluva lot more sense. So basically it goes: Nam Sang-mi is the leading lady in a love triangle with Ahn Jae-wook and Kim Min-jong, and Son Dambi has a crush on Ahn Jae-wook. That is, if Nam and Kim sign on. I certainly hope so, since I love them both, and wouldn’t really watch unless they joined the cast. And basically, with Ahn Jae-wook and Kim Min-jong facing off over a girl, we’d be in 90s drama heaven.
The story takes place from 1960 to the present, so it’s a large-scale epic about the life and career of an entertainer, played by Ahn Jae-wook. He debuts on a stage in front of American troops stationed in Korea, and it follows his path through the decades, with Korea’s modern history as a backdrop. Son Dambi is slated to play a senator’s daughter who falls in love with Ahn Jae-wook’s character. It’s all so vague, but what I’m guessing is that the drama’s more about the history, and less about the characters.
Light and Shadow will be helmed by the team behind Jumong, PD Lee Joo-hwan and writer Choi Ahn-kyu, and premieres in November on MBC, following Kye Baek.

Some Dam Bi can't act.... She is the second lead, so i am sort of okay with it. Can't really see her with Ahn Jae-wook in one frame though.

Me two!
I love him since I saw him in Mr. Goodbye. Had no idea who that guy was. Don't know he was big. But he left a huge impression ever since. Perhaps more to do with his character in Mr. Goodbye but nonetheless love him.

Yeah GIANT was my first thought also but less on the revenge part.
And Nam Sang Mi is younger than Dam Bi by 2 years but more experienced in acting wise. Love her!

I thought about Giant too which is one of my faves of all dramas. We need another big epic kdrama. Let's just hope it is more Giant and not an East of Eden...

I'm definitely more interested in this drama because it deals with the entertainment industry throughout the years. I'm indifferent to Ahn Jae Wook (probably because I didn't really watch any of his dramas), but I adore Nam Sang Mi :D I like Son Dam Bi, but I've never seen her act. As long as she's not cardboard cutout-like and her role isn't too major lol I don't care much for Kim Min Jong, but that's also because I wasn't into Korean dramas in the 90s...
If this can be an epic like Giant was, I'm in :) I LOVE GIANT <3 If it's like East of Eden... :X

Hmmmmmm Kim Min-jong was sooooo sad and beautiful in ROI. I hope he gets a girl in this one...doesn't have to be THE girl, but it can't be that youngun.'
I hope the wardrobe dept has a lot of fun with the 60s and 70's entertainment clothes and spends money.
I am curious what era they end up in. If the leads start as kids in the 60's, that would put our somebody at 50 or so in the present.
just finished Time Dog/Wolf and am in the midst of Sandglass - HOLY SH^T Sandglass!!! - that drama math means I am primed to see sweeping historic with NSM.
I loved her in Gourmet and while I like HER, did not like her character in LIB too much. Both characters were too demure. Demure is not my thing. We need K drama heroines who kiss back, you know, like real women do!

I hope Kim Min Jong will be the lead character one of these days. I miss those days. He's such a wonderful actor and a singer. I am with you Girlfriday, I would probably not watch if Kim Min Jong doesn't sign on, as much as I like NSM and AJW.

OK I got to be honest here, I almost drop my coffee when I saw Son Dambi's name and casted in drama in one sentece...but then I read more and realized that I should not panic cause she is NOT the lead....I'm sorry for those who loves Son Dambi, but chick can't act if her life depends on it....so second lead I can take, hoping her acting has improve.

Whut?? As long as Lee Seung-yun is still associated with this it'll keep my interests high.
Became a huge fan of 70s-80s era trot songs after Giant, still sing 3rd Hangang Bridge with a mophead or brush when I get the chance... Heh.

"with Ahn Jae-wook and Kim Min-jong facing off over a girl, we’d be in 90s drama heaven" - I can't agree more. Kim Min-jong is my huge crush back in Feelings 94 and I love him still :)
