Lee Ki-woo joins Flower Boy Ramyun Shop
by javabeans
Another pretty face joins the drama designed around the concept of pretty faces, Flower Boy Ramyun Shop: The very, very tall (190 cm) Lee Ki-woo has been cast in the tvN drama in his first post-army project.
If you’ll recall, Flower Boy Ramyun Shop stars quintessential flower boy Jung Il-woo and is the first in cable channel tvN’s Oh Boy Series, which is targeted toward younger viewers and plans to cast kkot-minam (flower boy) stars in all its dramas. Jung Il-woo plays a chaebol in a food product conglomerate, whereas Lee Ki-woo will play a “genius chef” (ahh, chaebols and geniuses, the lifeblood of the Korean rom-com) who comes to Korea from Japan. At least he’s not a cold genius type, but instead shows a “cheerful, quirky, and free-spirited” side.
Lee explained making the choice because he was drawn to the “bright and witty script and distinctive character.” Apparently there’ll be even more flower boys to come, since Lee works in a ramyun shop with a number of them, and falls into a romantic storyline with the heroine who manages it.
There hasn’t been a lot of info about Lee Ki-woo since his enlistment two years ago, but it’ll be good to see him back now that he’s out (he was discharged on September 1). I’ve only seen him acting in a few things (his dramas include A Star’s Lover, Rude Women, and A Love To Kill) and to be honest I haven’t been wowed by his performances, but he has a cute, clean appeal. I’m gonna be rooting for Jung Il-woo all the way, though, no question.
Now all that remains is to see who’s cast as the female lead. Flower Boy Ramyun Shop takes the timeslot after Birdie Buddy and premieres in October.

"I’m gonna be rooting for Jung Il-woo all the way, though, no question."
But Lee Ki Woo just came out of army! The abs! The ABS!
Honestly, I completely forgot about him. I'm guessing JIW will be the jerk and Lee Ki Woo the soft dude? Cause there HAS to be one of each in every romcom. Or K-drama.

Haha I was thinking the same when I read:
"Apparently there’ll be even more flower boys to come, since Lee works in a ramyun shop with a number of them, and falls into a romantic storyline"
and I thought with another flower boy but then I read on:
"with the heroine"
aah the potential...

Oh, dear.
I KNOW I'll have to watch FBRS at least twice - the first time around I'll be totally mesmerized by all the hot boy candy and won't hear a word of dialogue or pay any attention to the plot.
Once again, hoisted upon my own shallowness.

The very, very tall (190 cm) Lee Ki-woo....
OK, I have to admit that I laughed at the height description because I was imagining André the Giant, but this child/man/person is not even 6'3"! It's amazing how perspective is skewed. He might be a FREAK in Asia, but his height completely unremarkable over here. Hell, send him to Northern Germany or the Balkans and he'll be a pygmy. Still, it'll be nice to feast my eyes on someone so tall since I am also a freak height-wise.
Wae so pretty, person whom I do not know? I think I shall enjoy seeing lots of lovely lads serving ramyun.

It's also because Lee Ki-woo's particularly thin and has a teeny face but broad torso, which makes him look strangely tall. He even looks oddly large with Choi Ji-woo, who's known for being quite tall herself:

Pahaha ... thank you for the incredibly detailed description of the man, JB, and the pic. I am all the more appreciative, and look forward to witnessing the hotness of a Korean guy who is 3 entire inches taller than I am. I need to party with him and Cha Seung-won. I'll wear my heels. Hollerrr!
I must say, I do love a man who tapers nicely from shoulder to waist. Yikes, I sound like a perv. And his face really is tiny. That is causing me much amusement. I think the only Korean male with a tinier face is SHINee's Choi Min-ho. Seriously, you guys, google that shit. It's hilarious.

I agree XD My brother's taller than that, and I've seen many taller guys, but for the Asian entertainment, he's definitely very tall!! ^^ Imagine him in a dorama, he would definitely tower over everybody!! XD

LKW is not really that unusual; there are a good no. of younger Korean males who are 6'+ (the avg. height approaching 5'9" for young male adults).
However, he is on the taller side in the entertainment industry (altho Lee Kwang soo and Lee Chun hee are around the same height); same goes for Hollywood, most male actors are around 6' or shorter.

Wow, that picture really does make him look freakishly tall! I haven't seen Lee Ki-woo in anything before, and while the premise of this drama doesn't really excite me, I might cave and watch solely because of Jung Il Woo.

Isn't he one of the guys in The Classic?
And if so, then he also cameoed in Cha Tae Hyun's My Sassy Girl. :))
He also had this movie with Kim Bum's leading lady in Woman Who Wants to Marry.

HA! A legitimate sounding excuse for putting all of those pretty boys together... Sounds a lot better than "a surefire ratings winner". Yeah, I'll watch. Oh and Song Joong Ki totally gets my vote!

Hmmm ... a version of "Antique Bakery", perhaps? But, set in a ramyun. Pretty boys aside, I hope the drama has a well-executed story, script, etc.
(Sorry, I'm still suffering from all the lost potential in Spy Myung Wol.)

I was totally going to say it's kind of a Antique/Coffee Prince-esque concept! It's not wholly original but that's overridden by the ladleful (completely intended) of pretty boys.
I'm itching to see who they cast as the female lead. I'm in love with the character description.

I fondly remember him more in The Classic and A Love To Kill.

Lee Ki-woo! Wow, it's been a long time. I have to agree with JB. His acting hasn't wowed me, maybe because I've only seen his earlier work (The Classic, Sad Movie) so maybe he has improved. He's hella tall though. In my country of tiny people, he'll stand amongst the crown like a sore thumb. Or a really handsome sore thumb. Er, yeah, I need another metaphor.

Yayyyyyyyyyyyy spazzworthy drama with Lee Ki Wooooo! I really wished he could take on a male lead role in his first project after army service, but this is good enough for mee!!! Ki Bum and Lee MinHo or JoongKi wouldn't be in this drama since they're too big of stars at this point. Maybe not Joongki, but the others would want the lead roles. I'm going to predict that idols will be cast as second leads...Which is unfortunate since I don't want to see idols in dramas right now. I want some fresh faces from the rookie actors!

Such an unbelievably good-looking guy!!
He looks so good even with just a small smile...
and those lovely, lovely EYES, LIPS, COMPLEXION!! Wow!!!
To echo what Shin Min-ah once said in an interview, referring to Lee Seung-gi and Noh Min-woo :
"How come they are so pretty?"
"How come they have such great complexion?"
and HIS HEIGHT!! 1.9 m???!!!! Wow!!! Just WOW!!!
