Well, lessee.
I tweeted recently about this actress that I like, Yoon Eun Hye, and how her performance in Coffee Prince was really good.
Coincidentally, my twitter account recommended to me that I follow YEH. And I was all like, "so Twitter recommends that I follow YEH. But would Twitter recommend to YEH that she follow samsooki???"
Of course, that's all vanity, cuz YEH is YEH and samsooki is, well, samsooki. As Jenny said on Best Love / Greatest Love, "she's on this level" (waving her hand up high) "and you're on this level" (waving her hand down low). LOL!
Anyhoo, then another person, I won't say who, tweeted YEH directly and told her what I said but paraphrased it to 140 characters, and, in Korean, she made me sound like a stalker. LOL. So THEN I had to tweet YEH myself, telling her that the original person was the queen of lunatics so please don't pay her any mind. Dude, it's TOUGH writing Korean on a blackberry.
So that was my week. Not sure if that was thought-provoking, but it sure was interesting. :)

Thanks for sharing that, samsooki.
It reminded me of the post here in DB about the twitter wars between Eric and his character in MW The Spy, Kang Woo. So funny!
In your case, if YEH would only know that you are a legend yourself around these parts :-) then she would realize that in other aspects "you are this level and she is just down there" :-)
And since Twitter is not socially-discriminating then Im sure it has already suggested to YEH to follow you, samsooki. :-) When she does follow you on Twitter, let us know the inside scoop (much as we would want to follow her, the language barrier would make it difficult....plus Im not very active on twitter so that makes it next to impossible, haha)

After a very ordinary end to the work week - oh hell who am I kidding it was utter extraordinary $@&! week - came to DB for my daily dose of crack (FYI my flavour of the moment - LMH City hunter crack. Yum yum.) Not only do I find the awesomeness that is javabeans/girlfridays City Hunter finale recap I stumble upon the OT for the first time in ages to help with LMH withdrawal and what do I see as comment 1.
Samsooki!
OMG Samsooki has been found? *rubs eyes* *waves*
[Dear Santa
Is this another present? You have already been so so generous in gifting a whole bunch of AWESOME May/June - so much so I think people mistake my eyebags for new eyewear....
I mean May was:
Kang Jihwan (I know I know JB still has first dibs..but thinking she may now have to fight YEH as well as the usual Kang Ji MINE!s)
AND
Cha Seung Won (who as awesome as he was as Dokko Jin sorry he will always be Shin Min Rae's Jo Gook to me!)
AND
CSW/Jo Gook's assistant from City Hall (aka Lee Jung Hyuk as Mr Noble *sob sob*) turning on the hot and noble working against/with the City Hunter
AND
Lee Min Hot..I mean Ho? Have I been THAT good?
yep I, bspanda, must have been good in those few minutes spare where I was not watching kdramas recently! I will hold up my end of the bargain if you keep it coming! Sheesh who needs sleep....Keep it coming I love you!]
A million posts/dramas since i've posted in OT - but still fully paid up member of the Dramabeans fan club!
Greetings and hugs to my fellow DBers from the BoF (aka Lee Min Ho Round 1)/City Hall/O-P-W discussion period). Shout out to ockoala (omg I love yr playground! it's my other crack den esp TW variety, OMG yr recaps of Drunken to Love you are the bomb!!), cingdoc, langdon813, hjkomo, samsooki, of course Javabeans and many many more (you know who you are!)
This site has only grown more awesome...as if anyone reading this did not know.
Now can anyone tell me the cure for LeeMinHo withdrawal? The chq will be in the mail! Hmm better still.....
Dear Santa can I have Lee Min Ho for my next present? Ta

You're so funny.
Lee Min Ho was the main dude in BOF right?
And... this current craze is because he's in some drama called City something or other? City Hunter, is it?
Does Lee Min Ho hunt for cities? So, by the end of the drama, did Lee Min Ho find the city he was hunting for?
:)

Samsooki,
Ya know, sometimes it's tough when dealing with the repercussions or other people's actions. (i.e. The person who tweeted their interpretation of your tweet.)
It (your story) is interesting because I really wonder if YEH has time to read all the Twitter messages she receives. Like, does she pay an employee to review all the Tweets? If she does, did you create a stalker file on Samsooki? Is she really tech-savvy? Twitter... What does it all mean anyway?
There, just some of the thoughts your story elicited.

You know your presence last week on OT was an awesome surprise. It was such a surprise my mind started working overtime wondering if you were going to recap Kim Sun-ah's new drama that, coincidentally, also aired it's first episode last week Saturday. Alas, no recap (although I'm loving jb and girlfriday's recaps), but I'm just saying it wouldn't have been much of a surprise if you did return to recap another Kim Sun-ah drama. Good to see you're joining us on Fridays.... If you're "not stalking" YEH, have you been frequenting KS's Twitter (if she has one)? XD

Hi samsooki! Good to see you! I miss your writing since Chuno. Have you looked into Warrior Baek Dong Soo? I'd really like to know what you think about it. I really enjoyed the details you've put into Chuno, so it would be nice if you could do a bit of it about WBDS. Up to ep 8 now & I'm really enjoying the three young men with different adorable characters. The veteran actors talents add bonus to the drama.

Where are the You've Fallen For Me recaps for ep. 8 and 9? I've shaking in the corner, going through withdrawal...

samsooki
July 29, 2011 at 7:33 AM
How is "You've Fallen For Me"? I've stayed away from reading recaps of dramas I've not seen yet.
I know I used to get withdrawal symptoms when watching certain dramas... I'd get antsy and all wishy for the next episode. All I would want is a time machine to zoom me a week into the future so that I could watch the next two freaking episodes, and nothing else (no peeking at future winning lottery numbers or stock market picks).
Still, that never happened. My future self didn't come back into the past to give me a time machine so that I could go watch all the episodes of a current drama. I can only surmise that my future self has information that would be vital to survival of the human race, which information would be compromised if I went backwards in time, so that's why I don't currently have a time machine. Butterfly effect, and all that.
Oh, I went off on a tangent. Hehe! The other thing, it's kinda bad form to ask when recaps will come. They'll come when they come, and asking for them won't make them come any faster, but might raise the ire of those that do the recaps.... just a friendly piece of advice. :D

Thanks for the advice! ^^ I know it's bad etiquette to be asking for recaps. Most of the times I'm amazed by the speed of the recaps and the detailed nature of them. Girlfriday and Javabean are the best--sorry if I messed up your names!!
This is the first time I followed a Kdrama from week to week. I don't think I'd want to do this again. Too much anticipation.
As for You've Fallen For Me, I have a love/hate relationship with it, but that doesn't make me not want to watch it. It's definitely flawed and some people complain about the slow pace, but it's soooooooooooooooooooo good to see PSH and JYH together as leads.

yup, i agree about it being kind of bad form. and you would know, huh? SAMSOOKI,we miss your recaps! i know i can't be the only one!!!
also, regarding yffm-- may i? it's actually going much better than i expected, or at least, i'm liking it (WAY) better than i thought i would. i think it's because the drama embraces the lightness of its premise, instead of squeezing in aspects that may add *gravitas*, but totally would NOT fit in. so..props to them for that. :) if you're feeling light, fluffy and a little craving for some old school romanticism, stolen glances, googly lovey eyes and smiles that scream, "my god, i love you, your eyes are like stars, i wanna have your babies, my GOD!", then i say give yffm a shot. :)

Yes, YFFM and Heartstrings are one and the same. Blame the Korean network or powers that be for creating an additional English title (Heartstrings) via a Dramafever contest.
maria
July 29, 2011 at 11:45 AM
haha, yes, they are one and the same.blame the romanization and the english "translation" LOL. and while i wouldn't call it GOOD just yet, (so close to the ending of city hunter, which actually deserves the adjective in a superlative)i would venture to say it actually is good enough-- it holds itself up quite nicely, it has great music, it sticks with familiar ideas and comforting images of what young love is and it never pretends to be something it's not. make of that what you will :P

***** W A R N I N G ! ! ! *****
***** A TOTAL YFFM/Heartstrings Episode 9 SPOILER *******
Kyu Won: It's a shame that it rained. We didn't get to the beach to look at the sea. I wanted to sit on the beach at night and if I saw a shooting star, make a wish.
Shin: What would you wish for?
Kyu Won: It's a secret. If there's another falling star, I'd make another wish.
Shin: I should make a wish too.
Kyu Won: What is your wish?
Shin: It's a secret.
Kyu Won: Hey, you copied me!

It's okay. At least I was happy for like, 10 seconds. HAHAHA!
But those words, for me, are actually more heart-thump-inducing than just 'I like you'. We would've had this same conversation if Kyu Won didn't get all mad at first. And it's actually silly how the first line of the Episode is exactly its last line, too. Hee.

July 29, 2011 at 3:09 PM
Well i beg to differ. It's similar but not quite the same. In episode 8 he said "don't stop liking me" meaning that he's confident that she still likes him, which can be misunderstood as being narcissistic, while in episode 9 he said "you know what my wish is? for you to start liking me again", not assuming that she still has feelings for him.
I just hope he does better this time when she starts questioning him, not like in episode 8 :D

Me too! I just finished watching episode 9 and my heart is filled with glee. Still, I'm waiting for LS to actually say he likes KW.
Plus, the development between JH and HJ is making me squee. HJ may be bratty but I like how she is with JH. They're. Just. SO. CUUUUUTE.

There's no more reply button in your reply above this comment so I'll just use the reply button here. HAHA.
Well, now that I've seen Episode 9 fully, Shin wasn't actually being narcissistic when he said "Don't stop liking me" in Episode 8. He just wasn't fully ready to admit his feelings as Kyu Won directly asked him if he liked her but when he was already ready (lol) to defend and clear up the misunderstanding, Kyu Won's temper dominated depriving him the chance of explaining. I understood this during Episode 9, when Shin insisted on sitting on the mat Kyu Won was sitting on, he said "I think you're the one who's slow. You can't comprehend sentences very well." Kyu Won, just proves him right, and just asks him what he was talking about. Just a theory, though. But it does make sense, right?
Since the Episode 9 giddiness is still in me, I'll just include the thought that's running in my mind. I think Kyu Won and Shin will go home from this trip AS LOVERS already... if drama won't be cruel and have someone interrupt that beautiful moment again, that is.
ONE LAST THING, I have this strange feeling that Seok Hyun kinda likes Kyu Won. It sounds silly, I know, but the drama emphasizes his annoyed, or rather dissatisfied, reaction whenever Yoon Su would tell him that Shin likes Kyu Won. I hope it doesn't happen. I did hope for them to have a love line before but I totally like Yoon Su now, seeing how bright a sunshine she has become, and my heart would actually break if Seok Hyun develops feelings for Kyu Won. No, drama, no.

Are you a fan of Korean and other Asian dramas? Do you like talking about your favourite shows?
I am a Masters student at Kings College London and a huge fan of K-drama, conducting research for my dissertation on Korean drama fans: REC Reference Number: [ KCL/10-11_1125]
I am looking to recruit volunteers who currently live outside of Asia to answer a few questions about why they love Korean dramas and how they came to them in the first place. Participation is entirely voluntary and will mean responding to emailed questions over an agreed week in August (i.e. 7 days maximum). You are guaranteed absolute anonymity if you choose to take part.
Full details will be available on the Participant Information Sheet which you will be sent to all interviewees before the interview begins. If you would like to participate, please email me for more information and a consent form. My email address is: [email protected]
I look forward to hearing from you.

On the other side, my concern with Myung-wol is, she should kick Kang Woos ass and leave, but her life and her comrades life depends on her marring him. We will have to wait till monday to see what happens

Happy Friday, everyone! It was just reported on our local YTN newscast that Seungho-ssi is not as severely injured as first reported. In fact, after being released from the ER, he wanted to return to the WDBS set ASAP! What a trouper!!
The orbital bone around one of his eyes was fractured, so he's going to be wearing a face cast for the next 4 weeks until it heals. The other option was surgery, but after consulting with the surgeons and his mother (I keep forgetting that this cutie pie is still only 17 years old!!!), he opted for the cast instead. A stunt double will be used for the action scenes, allowing YSH to continue with the drama scenes when shooting resumes middle of next week.
The more serious problem is his stylist is in 'critical' condition in the ICU with more severe injuries. Regardless, my prayers and thoughts go out to everyone affected by this accident... and remember to wear your seatbelts!!
Anyway, I'm still reeling from the City Hunter finale. I think I'll go watch it again... :-)

I love Ryu! The only parts in Spy Myung Wol that I replay are:
1. the Ryu scenes (in episode 5, when MW was practicing her protect-and-hug tactic on Ryu-- how does she not notice how hot and chiseled he feels?)
2. any scene where I can get a good look at MW's shoes.
and
3. fight scenes.
I like Eric, but KW isn't really all that interesting, except for the part where I wonder if he's got military/spy training.

Love the pome!
I am not sure if I totally agree.
We have to ask the question:
Other than hotness, that they both share, which of the boys' character traits would help MW grow the most?
Which boy complements MW the best, and which one can bring out the best in her?
Which boy can MW help grow the most? Which one needs her the most?
I don't know the answer at this point, either.
I do wonder, all this time that Ryu has known her, was he there to help? It seems like he may have been, behind the scenes. Maybe he didn't want her to pass the test because he wanted to protect her?
If yes, I don't like him for her for that. She can take care of herself.
Then we have to throw in, what is MW looking for in a boy? Someone like her father? Does she want someone who can pull her out of the straight-jacketed life she is in or is she just fine, thank you, like that?
Wow! Now I have to go think about this...

City Hunter.. what can I say about this truly amazing show? It sucked me in from episode 1 and left me in tears at episode 20. I laughed, I cringed, I groaned and I cried for the show, I raced home after uni to download the latest episode, I hit refresh 60 times a minute on Dramabeans to see if the recaps are up. I started watching the drama live, without knowing a single word of Korean besides “oppa” and “unni”, yet there I was at 11pm on Wednesday and Thursday nights watching the show and simultaneously refreshing Soompi, hoping that someone that actually knew Korean was translating. It has honestly been a while since a drama has been this addictive and captivating for me.
My thoughts on the ending:
The drama as a whole was memorable, but the final 2 episodes left me a blubbering mess. I cried so hard when the prosectutor died.. sure I found him annoying at times, always appearing at the worst time possible, but hot damn, his final speech, hit something so deep inside me, not the part where he asked for his father’s forgiveness, but the moment when, bloodied and beaten, he drags himself up and states ChaeMan’s crimes and sentences him to 22 years. He lived so righteously and died a hero and inspiration in my heart, if only one day I could be that passionate as a lawyer.
*tiny side note.. SeeHee’s acting was a tad unbelievable for me, but it was passable in the moment, but it didn’t go unnoticed.
The ending of all endings... FRACK! My GOD! The drama was pure genius! They lured me into a sense of security because thus far NO ONE had been killed then BAM the prosecutor gets beaten to death and Yoon Sung puts a gun to his head and slowly pulls the trigger. I think I now have a heart condition as well as the puffy eyes. Jin Pyo’s last act was to protect his son and it killed me inside knowing that he finally showed that he cared!
Our OTP.. I knew they were either going to not be together (one or both being dead) OR it was going to be an opening ending, so I was just happy that they were happy to see each other. Nothing needs to be said between them to convey what they are thinking, everything they’ve been through is a testament to their secure and locked future.. UNLESS there is a SEASON 2 (but i would prefer it if City Hunter remained a one-off, staying pristine and perfect in my mind forever)
THANK YOU JAVABEANS AND GIRLFRIEND FOR TAKING THIS HIT OF CRACK WITH US. City Hunter really was “exactly my brand of heroin”

I would definitely like a season 2 of City Hunter.... IF (with capital letters because it's a big "if") they have a script as strong as in the first season.

Thanks, Linda. Apparently, we must have been separated at birth. You've said pretty much what's been rolling around in my brain since yesterday. It's a rarity when I can't bring myself to comment on a drama - the only other time I suffered from PTSKDS (Post Traumatic Shock Kdrama Syndrome) was at the end of "Stairway To Heaven". These gut-wrenching endings take a toll. I accept the fact that I'm one of those people who cry at parades, any heroic, military-type music, and watching any race that Secretariat ran (don't ask - I totally blubber watching Big Red demolish his competition)!
City Hunter pushed all those buttons for me. Big time.

Helloooo!
1. I was thinking about Best Love recently (as I am often wont to do), and I got caught up with trying to figure out what American actors could play those parts in a remake. I really thought Dokko Jin couldn't be played by anyone, until it hit me that I would LOVE to see Jon Hamm play that part- he could capture the A-list star/don't-f**k-with-me-action-hero image contrasted with the man/boy private life perfectly! But I couldn't think of anyone for Ae Jung or Pil Joo. Anyone else play this game?
2. This lead me to think- what would you guys all think about K-dramas being remade for American audiences? I have become obsessed with the idea of a remake of Soulmate. While I LOVE the show and know it doesn't need to be remade (and I am well aware of the dangers of American remakes - for every "Office" there is a "Skins"), I think it could play really well on American TV - it fits the Friends/Sex and the City American rom-sitcom vibe, but its premise is different enough that it won't feel like a retreading of those shows. Anyone else think so? No? Bueller?

I have always thought about American adaptations of any asian drama, but It always came back to the fact that the difference between asian dramas and tv-shows is that the westernised dramas tend to not know when to 'end' which i absolutely HATE! Some tv shows go on and on, and the more they air the worse the show's reception becomes. I do have high hopes for America doing something like Asian dramas where there are just a set amount of episodes and then it ends, but i think if the show was popular the producer would drag it out, or make a another season for profiting purposes.

My hope is that some cable up-start channel will try to do this and produce it's own shows as opposed to trying to do it on the big networks. But what I really want is original American programming that takes the best lessons from Asian dramas. Definitely having an end is one of the lessons. I'm afraid most Asian dramas would not translate well to America because so many of the things that make kdramas etc. awesome are culturally specific, although there are universal themes that everyone understands. Plus the originals are so damn good and satisfying already....Americans hate subtitles...our loss.

true. it'd be awesome if there would me more western adaptations of kdramas. but i think the main problem lies in the plot and the basic thing that makes kdrama in the very first place. i don't think it would translate well to the majority of american audience unless the theme is more general and universal. best love had its own goodness but i don't think any american actor/actress could carry off the humor gong hyojin and cha seung won hv pulled off so well. and besides, one of the main thing that pulls me in from best love is the k-showbiz background which is kind of funny and intriguing. some other shows like city hunter maybe would do.

Just chiming in with my two cents. :)
I totally agree with what you said, and would like to add that I don't think adaptations work well even in other Asian contexts. I know Thai dramas have tried the Kdrama format and it just doesn't take. There's a certain blend of elements that only the original can execute; I think it's true of anything that has charmed people. I love American action movies and can't really stand those of other cultures. There's a certain 'flavor' I'm used to, and no one else can replicate it.

"It always came back to the fact that the difference between asian dramas and tv-shows is that the westernised dramas tend to not know when to ‘end’ which i absolutely HATE" --- My feelings exactly!! That's part of the reason why I turn to Korean dramas. Yeah, we have those kdramas with 100+ episodes, but did you know some american soaps last for decades?! And usually the longer a show lasts, the more likely it is that characters become cardboard-cutout versions of themselves. It's like having a drunken guest at your home/party who wouldn't leave and you're stuck with him/her.
For Best Love, I think it may work well as a British rom-com miniseries. or any country that supports miniseries.

I disagree, I like multiple seasons especially when I find the characters interesting like the Closer, CSI, NCIS, and Criminal Minds.
I don't think short shows would work over here because you need a certain number of shows to reach syndication which increases a shows popularity and reaches people who may have missed the previous seasons.

I don't mind multiple seasons (especially for procedurals), but i think some tv shows take it too far and just go on without direction.

are there any star pairings that made you think "that guy/girl is going to bring him/her down?" And aejung's scandals are minor and we can translate them as: diva attitude ( seri slapping, group disbanding), falling for the bad boy ( guy with fiancee fall out). Aejung can be played by alexis bledel, pil joo by lucas bryant from haven .
I think I need romance would fall flat. The show is great and there are numerous meaty parts that they didn't work on that are really different, but the problem would be the city. The setting would have to be a major city to define the "culture", the work the women do and their politics.

The only thing I can think of is Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Aniston. When that whole thing was going on so many people decided to call Angelina Jolie a home wrecker.
...There was also the opposite kind of effect where Jesse James cheating on Sandra Bullock made everyone realize how awesome Sandra Bullock is just in time for her to win her Oscar! Now that could be a kdrama and I'de definitely watch it.

I think it would go over well, if there were a few examples to break the ice. In general, though, studios spend too much money preparing for and promoting a single drama to just get one season out of it. If they found a runaway hit that made up for that in DVD sales, we could see a pattern.
The thing is, Kdrama rom-coms are unabashedly aimed for the female audience, which is probably great marketing in Korea, but a long-shot in the States. This may seem odd, but before Sex and the City, there were no rom-coms out there for girls. Chick dramas were just prime-time soaps like 90210 (Friends started more unisex and got heavy on the romance later). We'd never seen anything like that before and it changed the way TV marketing thought. So, while Desperate Housewives follows the same trend, it's still new territory.
In the best world, a new idea comes up, like Glee, but with a strong-minded end and kick-ass music, like Dream High. Something universally appealing.
Worst case scenario, it would be like walking 16 hours of a J-Lo movie. I would die choking on my own upchuck.

I'm seriously starting to be a little worried when I first open my favorite k-news sites because lately it's all been about how favorite stars have been in accidents.
This one is really bad though. A fractured cheek bone is going to need a LOT of recovery time and surgery (it depends on whether bone fragments have moved after the fracture or not). Warrior Baek Dong Soo is in trouble unless they are at least a month ahead of schedule with the filming and they are probably not.

Noooooooo!! I hope since he's young, maybe he'll heal fast? But very likely the poor boy will be acting while in pain. =( I hope the production decides to give him more than a few days to rest.
And yeah, these car accidents are becoming an epidemic. I hope actors, their managers, and their drivers, before getting in the car, think "I should go slowly and carefully and be hyper-vigilant so that we can all get to where we need without injuring ourselves!" It should be like written in some contract. And maybe SK should rethink driver's education

They will have to give him more than a few days to recover. If the bone is really broken then his cheek is probably swollen and he would have a big bruise. Even if they wanted to make him act, they wouldn't be able to mask that with all the make-up in the world. I see patients with this kind of problem at work all the time and it takes a while to heal regardless of age.

It happened to the lead actor in Spring Waltz. The punch scene injured his cheek bone...weeks to recover. Drama postponed. Hopefully YSH will get well soon so we don't miss much of WBDS.

As much as I love Sung Hyun (which is quite a lot), I agree with her reasoning for not accepting the proposal, even if the writing didn't really make it clear. Even if the guy is as awesome and beautiful as Sung Hyun, if I was going to be turned into a Stepford bride and be forced to part from my besties just to protect his family's image, I would have said no, too. Especially when Sung Hyun never objected to any of that!

I understand her reasoning too (and probably would have done the same thing too), but I don't understand why she waited till after he proposed to say something! There were a couple of scenes of them together talking about the future and she never expressed her hesitation to him. At least if she had said something Sung hyun might have taken it as a clue and held off proposing till they worked through things.... so relatable, but sooo frustrating.
It's gonna be weird if she doesn't end up with Sung hyun because theirs is the most emotionally developed relationship in the show. Seo yeon is running around with 2 men and Yun joo, although way cute with Duk soo, doesn't have a clue.

I think in all of the korean dramas I've seen the married women become hostages of their inlaws and only meeting with older friends every once in a while and their friends don't seem to mind or aren't upset. I don't think they become stepford wives it's just that their duties to their husband and his family are most important. I think this is probably why a lot of people "just date" for a long time.

I understand her reasons, and I believe she wasn't sure of what to do until he proposed.
She loves him, and wants to believe the relationship is worth it, but after many years of hard work putting your self a side for a man ... it wouldn't be right.
Having to lie about who you are and abandoning everything you have work for is simply nuts.
No matter how great a man is, is still just a man, and all relationships rich an end eventually.
She was suffering because she didn't want to lose him. But lest be realistic here, they started dating a few weeks ago, she just discovered that she loves him, and all the sudden she is going to marry him. CRAZY!!!
I don't care how great he is, a woman have to think well about something like this.

Hi everybody! I’m really excited about this new script I’ve just written. I’d like to share it with you.
~ RYUNG-WOW THE SPY ~
Evening. Deep in the woods. A twig snaps.
Kang Woo (startled): Who’s there?
Ryu: It is me. MasterSpy Ryung-wow. At your service.
KW: Ryung-wow? What kind of crap name is that?
Ryu: It is a good, strong, manly name. But I must admit I
much prefer the name Bow-Wow.
KW: Why are you here? I was expecting Myung Wol.
Ryu: She had other things to attend to.
KW: Huh? Since when have you become her messenger?
Ryu: Myung Wol and I are comrades. I know her better than I know myself.
KW: Okay. Fine.
KW turns and strides off.
Ryu: Wait. Don’t go.
KW: Huh?
Ryu: I. Said. Don’t. Go.
Ryu strides towards KW. He stops in front of him. Suddenly, he raises his right hand and slaps him hard across the left cheek.
KW: What the…!!!!! Are you crazy, dude? That hurts!!!!!
Ryu: I’m sorry. There was a bug on your cheek. See?
Ryu opens his palm and shows KW the dead bug. In a swift motion, Ryu pops the bug into his mouth.
Ryu: CRUNCH CRUNCH CRUNCH CRUNCH
KW: OMG.
Ryu: Hm… legs a bit brittle….scratchy on the throat….
KW: OMG, dude. You’re nuts. I’m outa here.
Ryu: Wait. I have something I have to say to you. I....
KW: Time is precious. I’m a Hallyu Star. People pay me for my time.Well, go on, dude. Spit it out….no (shuddering at the sight of black specks on Ryu’s front teeth), on second thought, DON’T spit it out.
Ryu (blushing): I love you.
KW: You WHAT??!!
Ryu: I love you.
KW chokes.
Ryu: Come with me to North Korea. You will be happy, I promise you.
KW runs and cowers behind a big tree.
KW (breathless): You…stay…away…from me.....
Ryu advances.
KW: Don’t come any closer!
KW grabs a fallen tree branch and hurls it at Ryu.
Ryu leaps into the air, fast as lightning, and catches the branch deftly between his teeth.
Ryu: CHOMP CHOMP CHOMP CHOMP
KW: OMG. Are you….are you….. EATING that branch?????
Ryu (mouth full): Dishhh CHOMP CHOMP ish CHOMP CHOMP delicioush CHOMP CHOMP
KW: Stay away from me!!!!!!
Ryu lunges forward as KW screams. Ryu bites into the tree trunk and gnaws at it while KW watches in horror.
Ryu (closing his eyes in bliss): Oh. This. Is. So. Good.
KW: OMG. OMG. Help!!!! Somebody help me please!!!!!!!
Ryu: BURPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP. Excuse me.
KW faints.
Ryu hoists him up on his back and piggybacks him away.
THE END

I read the preview for the next ep put up by YJ (gee, are we related?) on the next page, and I'm so mad.....they're just glossing over the slap, as Jomo has anticipated. I hooked on it, too.
From the opening scene, it got me - the clear, crisp production values, terrific costuming, a sure hand on the director's chair and actors who know what in the hell they're doing.
These young boys are just impressive - I have an over-abundance of noona (okay, ahjumma) love here for the two of them.
The only thing that really kind of concerns me is having such a young focal point as the center of this saguek. There isn't going to be any significant age-ing of our two boys for the rest of WBDS. I'm hoping that the story-telling can support that fact. I'm loving the immaturity of Dong-Soo - he's sweet and funny, righteous and immature.
He will have to grow up and mature into his fated place in Joseon history - but for now I'm loving the way he's written.
And as an aside, how cool is that tattooed back on our leading lady? :)

I agree with everything you two said. The younger actors are fine, but I'm not really invested in them yet, and since they are so young, I'm not sure how well they can carry the rest of the show. I like the assassin kid, but the guy with the glasses is just filler, and as for Dong-soo, his youthful arrogance is irritating enough (although I totally understand it) that I'm hoping we'll have the satisfaction of seeing him get knocked down a few pegs.
I would be happy if the show would just focus on the Sword Saint, the Sky Lord (I think that's his name... even though they put the names on the screen all the time, I still don't know who everyone is), the Crown Prince, and the lady with the tattooed back.
This show has really given me a taste for sageuks, though. I have a few vacation days now, and I think I'm going to spend them immersed in sageuks. I'm developing a real liking for men in hanboks and those hats (with long hair, of course).

Kim Gwang Taek aka Sword Saint aka best Joseon swordsman
Chun - aka Sky Lord aka second best but sexiest swordsman in Joseon
Ji - aka Earth Lord aka third best and luckiest since both Gwang Taek and Chun are/were in love with her
In - aka Human Lord aka the most annoying character ever to grace a sageuk who fully deserves to be dropped in the boiling vat that they had prepared for Dong Soo.
Dong Soo - young good guy, and titular hero - a Labrador Retriever puppy
Un - conflicted young guy played by a young man who is not even legal yet - a cat waiting to pounce
Cho Rip - young man who is there by hardwork and brains, and a foil for the other 2 - a work pony with glasses
Um...not that I'm obsessed with this drama, no not meeeee...goes off whistling....

Hi guys! Happy Friday =)
I was just reading a dramabeans post a few days ago about Park Min Young in a new drama right after City Hunter. She is once again the female lead up against a good looking and hot dude.
I am just wondering..how she gets all this luck?!
In my humble opinion, she is pretty much an average actress. But her appeal is intriguing to me enough to ask some opinions.
Its like: I don't think she acts well, but i like her enough. yet i don't feel for the characters she play...yet you can't say she is doing a bad job though..anyone know what i mean?

I think a lot of her parts come to her because she's the perfect foil for all the "Hotness" she gets to star opposite to - she's sweet, really pretty, has an extremely expressive face with those big eyes, physically she's petite and she's a good (not great, yet) actress. Guys love to have this type of actress to play against. Her femininity brings out their masculinity, and that translates into power couple stuff for the small screen.

Usually after playing a lead in a well-received drama, you'd go on to play leads instead of second leads unless the second lead is a compelling character. It's natural that she goes from lead of SKKS to CH to whatever the new drama is called. If she wasn't the lead in CH, she would have been the lead in some other drama we're following. If she didn't pick up the lead role in this new drama, she would have been the lead female in other upcoming dramas. We only notice her because she hasn't really been taking a break between dramas. Nana's role was very small in the past 2 weeks, so I guess it isn't too hard for her to jump into another drama so soon.
And practically every korean lead actor between the ages of 18 and 42 are hot. We'd be jealous of her no matter no matter who the male lead is! If she was in I've Fallen for You, we'd be like "you get to star beisde Jung Yong Hwa?" or in Spy Myung Wol "biatch, with Eric of Shinhwa fame?!!"

Hear, hear. Being Korean itself, and understanding the language is something to be thankful for. But being a Korean actress, getting the chance to rub whatever the script says to rub with a hot pretty boy, they must've been saints in their previous lives. Lol.

Maybe she just has the charisma that will make you love her as her and not as a brilliant actress. The 'maybe' part is because I never saw her act yet since I never watched CH, even a preview. Hee.

I wonder what the most popular names in Korea are. I know among celebrities, Ji Hoon, is a really popular guy's name, but is it for the general public. I was just thinking about how practically everyone I know knows at least one guy name Mike. And I know for Koreans Americans, Daniel, Steven, and Grace are really popular names. In the taiwan drama, Fated to Love You, it was mentioned that Xin Yi is a really popular girl's name. In any given office, there would be 4 of them.
Watching the Ouran High School Host Club live action. I usually love jdrama live action adaptions of manga and looked forward to this one, but in the end, I'm just lukewarm about it I like Yamamoto Yusuke, but I feel like he's a bit miscast. And what's with it being only a half hr long? Ouran cosplays are pretty common in anime conventions that I'm glad they changed the costuming to remind us that this is a live action adaptation and not an extend episode of people cosplaying as the characters.

*covers her ears* not listening, not listening, because I haven't finished CH 20 yet....
Okay, I know I'm slow on the boat on this one, but I just watched Sungkyunkwan Scandal this week, and it is my First Ever case of Second Lead Syndrome. (I don't think Shining Inheritance/Brilliant Legacy counts cuz he was written as Mr. Perfect.)
Moon Jae Shin needs a huge compensation payout. He needs a spin-off series. He needs a hug (and I'll gladly volunteer.) Crikies, is this my first ajhumma-crush, too?
I always thought people exaggerated when they talked about the pain, heartbreak, and broken wine bottles of second lead syndrome. I thought, "he doesn't get the girl because he lied to her / is a womanizer / lost his chance years ago/ is a pansy / is an ass / is a manipulative ass / has no interesting character traits whatsoever / isn't Lee Seung Ki. So just get over it."
I apologize for my skepticism and derision. I am paying for each one with a drop of my blood.

We died and brought back to life and then died again many times over with all the heartbreak and pain from Moon Jae Shin in SKKS...ask izzie, koreandramalover, sumee, pastmidnite and all the other who went gaga over Yoo Ah In. The MJS virus caught us and caught us bad.
He has yet to make that big film or drama splash after the SKKS stint though...

Goo' morning all you lovely people all over the world!
I hope you are healthy and safe and free from stress.
I got to see a Russian guitarist perform Rodrigo's Concerto de Aranjuez last night in an outdoor amphitheater with a symphony orchestra. It is THE most beautiful concerto ever written for any instrument. You could write and entire drama around the second movement.
If you don't believe me:

(This is one of many many many gorgeous versions)
Am marathoning "Last Scandal" as an antidote to CH ending. I cried and cried and cried - because it ended, and because how it ended. The music I posted above works with the ending, too.
I have to type and run to Ikea today.
Because the closest one is in Canada about a 90 minute drive, which includes going over the border and through Customs, this is an all day event.
Sometimes I buy beds, sometimes silverware, but always something. I spot Ikea in all the Kdrama sets. In CH, YS has some of the same vases I have.
Be back later to properly greet you!

Awww, Jomo! I also like The Last Scandal. Did not expect it; so it was a nice surprise. I saw it here on local TV channel and it was dubbed in our language. I prefer to watch subbed rather than dubbed but at that time when it was shown I had no time to watch online (my busy office work then got in the way of my kdrama-watching, hehe...but now that I work on my own time, I can watch kdrama at my own convenience :-) yay!
Happy shopping at Ikea! Last I went in one is in Netherlands few years back. We don't have it here...yet...the nearest one is in Singapore.
Im checking out the YT link on the concerto of the Russian guitarist you shared. Last I saw a guitar performance was by a Spanish guitarist in our college and yes, a Japanese string musician several years ago in CCP (cultural center). Good memories! Tnks for the link, Jomo.

Happy Sunday (EST) to you!
I stayed out of OT until I finished LS, which I really did enjoy all the way through. Was very sad to read the lead actress committed suicide. It was eery because LS hinted at how high the stakes are for celebrities, and how much farther the fall from grace is for people in the public eye.
Also strange is while I was watching I liked Choi Jin Shil who is a tiny powerbomb of an actress like Jung Da Bin, the girl in Attic Cat and He Was Cool, I thought "How sad that she died!"
My son, 11, is studying classical guitar, so any time any classical guy or gal comes to town, we go see them. He watches closely and shushes me often.

I always found that uncanny too that the lead actress in LS took her own life...
The pressure must have been overwhelming and the stakes too high for her to go to that extent....and to all those other K actors/actresses who took the same route.
Beyond sad...
So cool that your son is into classical guitar! There's a korean boy Sungha Jung whose video Ive watched so many times in YT and he's so amazing! Here's a link to one of his vids...

I have been to HK once.
I still have my jaw on the ground in awe of its size, complexity, beauty, number of people in one place.
The guy who showed us around said one of the apartment buildings he pointed out could have 1 million people living in it.
My city doesn't have 1 million people in it!
Since I come from NY, the way I could explain the wet market to my friends was it "Is like Chinatown on steroids."
I wish I had money so I could travel all the time, and visit all of you people one at a time. Or we could all plan on meeting in Singapore at the top of the Overseas Union Bank Centre on New Year's Eve in 2015. I'll wear a white carnation.

How are you today?
That was beautiful. I'm glad you got to hear it. I remember those good old days of going to orchestra concerts in open amphitheaters (which you are encouraging me that in a few years time I will be able to go once again.)
*Note to self: Must find babysitter who does not have to be home at 11 p.m. and can work on Saturday nights. Mulls over luring in-laws to drive 125 miles just to babysit... *
Last Scandal is a good one. I've watched it twice now. However, I am currently, once again watching Coffee Prince. Gong Yoo... SIGH!!!! SWOON!!!!
I really want to watch Sang Doo, Let's Go To School with Gong Hyo Jin and Rain, but can't find a good copy online anywhere. Watched parts of it in French, but it's been years and my French has escaped my brain for the most part. It's a little better than watching it RAW, but I'd even take that if I could find it.
The French subbing group who started to translate it disbanded before finishing subbing the shows. I should probably hunt on Tudou. I may find it there, if I can guess at the title. Some of the postings are just letter/number combinations and boy, are they difficult to research.
But alas, I digress.
Ikea. It's funny that you mention your trip because I am planning a trip next week. I am totally eyeing that pink loveseat!!! I don't know if I'll get it though. Last time we went, we had to take everything out of the boxes and load the car that way. I am a VERY good organizer.

MJP! Happy Sunday to you!
The toddler years are slightly constricting, aren't they? Good baby sitters were hard to come by - they kept aging and going away to college on me!
Even when they are older, having my kids at concerts is distracting. It's hard to put down $130+ down for a family of four for the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, then scold the squirmies for two hours... My oldest daughter was easy because she would bring a book and listen passively. Of course the boy wanted to be in my lap the whole time, in those small seats...I sometimes wonder how ridiculous I look squabbling (hopefully) silently with a three year old about concert manners...
I should point out that I went insane when LB turned 3 and agreed to violin lessons for her. That was when we started on our Suzuki Music Method journey:
http://internationalsuzuki.org/method.htm
which continues today.
It really is a cult, with strange customs and strange members - even so I don't regret any of it. My friends and family shake their heads over me coming to get a child from their care, so he/she can "go home and practice." Her 12 years violin - him 8 years guitar.
Strangely, despite my years of nagging (or maybe because of it) both kids want to do music in college. We lucked out with both teachers, who have become part of the family after all this time.
This is Frankie's teacher's studio:
http://www.castellaniandriaccio.com/teaching_studio.html
He is in the front of the photo at the top - strawberry blond in the middle.
If you sit through all the slides on the lower right, you can see him from six years ago wearing a dark vest in front of a dark wooden screen. In the one with his teacher, you can see my furniture from Ikea peak out!
You know, I am a good "get everything in the car so it fits," too. Better than my husband.
The trek to Ikea is regular like now.
How far away, do you have to drive, MJP?
We have photos of my kids jammed into the back seat -- one in a car seat -- with Ikea boxes aimed at their little tiny heads.
We bought Ikea loft beds for both bedrooms, which really frees up precious floor space. Highly recommend once Wee MJP is old enough not to test gravity with his body!

I have a whole house full of Ikeas. My hubby was very into Ikea when we bought a new house a few years back, and he promptly bought an Ikea interior decor manual which was super thick (and super pricey), but really good....it had lots of glossy pics and really helpful chapters on all kinds of stuff, like how to decorate a tiny kitchen, hanging pics on the wall, etc etc. We have a huge Ikea in Kuala Lumpur, but somehow I like the one in Singapore better, dunno why. Every time I step into Ikea, I want to buy EVERYTHING. My hubby has to keep removing stuff from my trolley; he'll go "Cushions????? Whatever for????? We've got lots of those at home" and I'll whine, "But they're so pretty..." These Ikea folk, they're really sly...see, they put up really cute stuff all the way to the payment counter, so by the time I reach it, I'd have easily picked up another dozen really unimportant, unneeded stuff in my trolley. Oh, and I love the children's beds' display: My little boy used to clamber on the bed and lie there for ages even though there was a sign saying: FOR DISPLAY ONLY. NO LYING DOWN. I used to act like I didn't know him when anyone looked disapprovingly at him. So when he called "Mummy! Come here, Mummy!" I'd just frown and look around disapprovingly too for "Mummy". He he

We have a house of Ikea, too. Our last house was the perfect scale for the smaller pieces, and it had a mid-century modern vibe (It's a thing. I didn't make it up.)
All my silverware, glassware, knick-knacky candle stuff, bedspread, kids' bedrooms, kitchen chairs, barstools, office chairs are Ikea. I am known for my "weird" spoons.

Jomo the Wise! How was your adventuring over the border? My former boss' parents lived very near the Canadian border, much closer to it than to their kids and grandkids. I imagine lots of multinational stores like Ikea were closer over the border than in-state. It's like when mapquest and google maps want to send me to Jersey to find something that I personally know is just the next borough over, b/c the mileage is technically better. *shrugs*

Hello CMR!
It was a very nice trip, and although we expect to wait in line at the border to go through Customs, it is annoying. On the way up, it took more than an hour. We were smart on the way back and called the 800 "Bridge Traffic" line, and chose one of three bridges with no line. Yay!
So that gave us time to go to the DUTY FREE shop.
I bought some toilet water...OK...eau de toilette.
I also followed around a young Korean couple around for as long as I could...separated then "met" them coincidentally later somewhere else in the store. I only heard the word "pretty" clearly when they were looking at watches.
What's YOUR K-Stalking Story? (I should do a series on the now on a hiatus Yobosayo!)

I feel ashamed. Looks like everyone's gonna miss City Hunter but me. I am so sorry. I wish I could be one of you guys! Hehe. Though I have been keeping up with CH through the recaps, I am just too loyal a fan that I wouldn't dare watch You've Fallen For Me's rival show, though it wasn't really much of a competition. Hehe.
Anyway, I am just so happy with where You've Fallen For Me is already. With Lee Shin finally acknowledging his feelings with the faint intention of hiding it (if it weren't for that faint intention, he would've just blurted out 'I like you' like he always did before to Yoon Su). And how he sees Yoon Su now as nothing as they have already conversed normally and with Shin apologizing for bothering her all those time. Yay! At least, if it weren't clear to others, it's now clear that Kyu Won wasn't just a 'rebound' girl and that Shin really really really likes her. I just hope they'll cut the chase already before it gets too much of a hero-chasing-after-heroine-who-obviously-likes-the-hero-too cliche. And by the way, I like how Kyu Won's grandpa chooses or at least tries to, between the director and the boy who reminds him so much of his younger self. Hilarious. :)
Spy Myung Wol is cool, too. It's an oddball but in a good sense. I actually am laughing at myself as to how I would think of KW as Kyu Won instead of Kang Woo and ask myself, how the hell did Kyu Won and Ryu meet?! Just proves how stupid I am. Haha!
Sorry if this is too long! My fingers just can't stop. Lol. Happy Friday to all! (Although not to me since I still have classes tomorrow. Pfft.)

Sharing the same sentiments. Been on Korean land, i.e., the airport, many years back.
Really, really want to experience:
- Walking on the cherry blossom (the rendezvous place of Gong Ah Jung and Hyun Ki Joon in Lie to Me), with all those blossoms raining on me
- Listen to indie band music in the Hongdae district
- Stand by the banks of the Han River or on the waterfront in Inju (or whichever place they filmed that) where Shin Mi Rae vent her frustrations and joy and exchanged that first soul-searing kiss with Jo Gook
- Climb Halla Mountain in Jeju, much like Kim Sam Soon
- Drink some soju, eat kimbap and dukbokki, and bulgogi, and all kinds of kimchi
- "Kamsa Hamnida" with just the right amount of bow...
Ahh, look at what you've done to me, Hallyu wave!

You know what's one of the reason why I love City Hunter? It's because it tackles politics in a realistic way. Most of the story that happened there is exactly what's happening or had happened in my country. And most of the time it's horrible that that. One of my cousin's friend was shot by a sniper because he's involve in an activist group. My cousin was about to join too. But did not because of what had happened to her friend. It's just so sad.

i said this in CH recap. few days ago, my boss said exactly like the target in CH did 'if i dont do this, others will. the money is ours after all' i instantly thought about CH. he's corrupted. i think he knows we dont like his way of working and talk behind his back. why else he said that so openly.but because he has strong link with the higher people & politicians, no one can bring him down *sigh* thats why i love and respect the real life issues they brought into CH. the speeches about justice breaks my heart.

If you guys didn't know already, Heartstrings (YFFM) will be only airing 15 episodes because of the special.
The last one will be aired on Aug. 18th because the next drama, Can't Lose, will air Aug 24
I'm SOOO sad. I wish they could extend it but they prolly can't because of the ratings

That's very disappointing :(
I think it's unfair, it's not their fault that Shin Hye unnie had an accident. I'm hoping for salma's idea...

I think that's good, though. I think this is one of those cases where the drama doesn't quite have 16 episodes in it. Short of love-angst and back-room-backstabbing, I'm not sure what's left of the story after 9.

Hello! Anyone watching The Princess' Man? It's very hard to watch it for me because subtitles take long, and it's not on viki (well, I can't find it)
I watched the first 2 episodes... This is so going to be a Tragic (yeah, capital t) journey... At least Park Shi Hoo's awesomeness will make it less painful

The user has ep 1 + 2 so far, but the person uploads dramas pretty fast. Within 24hrs and sometimes 48hrs. But it's normally pretty speedy, well, at least for the super popular dramas (City Hunter for ex.), I think they get subbed faster.
But anyway, that's a link to ep 1.
