Seo Woo and Yoo Seung-ho as a couple
by girlfriday
Wow, straight from high school slacker-turned-test-rocking-genius (God of Study) to wealthy heir and husband to Seo Woo? Yoo Seung-ho, you sure are moving up in the world.
New MBC special weekend drama A Woman Only Loves Once (I OBJECT!) has cast Yoo Seung-ho as the male lead, a chaebol son with a twisty birthright (of course). Seo Woo has been confirmed as his love interest: an actress with a past, who ends up in a scandal, and therefore married to Yoo’s character.
But…they’re so wee!
The series also stars Shin Eun-kyung as the string-pulling mistress-of-doom, and is set up to be a 50-episode epic tale of the lives of the filthy rich. Er, what’s new? Frankly, I’m a little tired of rich people and their birth secrets. Can’t Rich Daddy just keep it in his pants?
Hopefully the drama will do something positive for these two actors, who are fantastically expressive. If they end up married for the bulk of the run, that could be an interesting dynamic to explore.
A Woman Only Loves Once will air on MBC in October, following Kim Suro.

FINALLY, news ~~~
I am anticipating it a lot because it is the first big budget/project from Ulsan MBC~~
It's special eh? I hope the story is really attractive, not a fan of Seo Woo's voice but the other makes do ^^

This can be an interesting pairing and i think noona-dongsaeng love relationship is cute just like Kim Bum and Park Jin Hee but... Kim Bum at least is 21 years old while Yoo Seung Ho is underage, don't it feel a bit like a pedophile? Not that Seo Woo looks old but the actual real-life age is just a hindrance to imagine both together.
Well, i'll be looking out for this one to see whether it's great or not

He's 17, but will be playing 21. She's 25. It is a bit weird, because, as someone said, he's still underage. Granted, he's playing older, but in the back of my mind, I'll be thinking: he's 17!

Its acting you shouldn't see the person who playing the part but the character created by the screen writer. In most k-drama the celebrities are playing roles younger then they age so to see a reverse isn't that shocking. I like them both and look forward to seeing if they have chemistry with each other.

I think Seo Woo, good actress that she is, is a bit too much of adult for him. Her acting experience, roles and range is more mature than that of Yoo Seung-ho. I would rather see her with Kim Soo Hyun (Giant) or Jung Il Woo (Return of Iljimae) to me that would be more balanced.
I do understand that Yoo Seung-ho may want to be removed from being somewhat typecast playing teen roles, but he is a teen to me he should wait a few more years, minimum being 2. He can played stronger roles as a teen provided that the PDs are creative.

Seo Woo (I've adored her since I saw her in Crush and Blush and Tamma) with Kim Soo Hyn (love at first sight since
Father's House) and Jung Il Woo (the only reason to watch High Kick and who doesn't love RoI?) would be perfection. All three are some of the best actors of their age group, it would be better balanced, and I am dying to see KSH in a lead role.

NYYUUUUU!! I Object too! They are both soo young! How can they be married? Of all things! And 50 episodes? Gosh! @keishira- He's only 17! And she's 25! But with her looks, I think they'd match each other well, and I'm not opposed to the whole younger guys thing (like with Kim Bum and Park Jin Hee) but seriously, they couldn't have picked an older actor? Or give Yoo Seung Ho a better role that fits his age? Jeez!

Age gap is one thing. Even though Seo Woo looks young she is an adult and as acted as an adult. Yoo Seung Ho is a teenager, nothing is going to change that.
For the show there would be a fair amount of limitations as one would be unable to see certain scenes such as a supposedly intimacy between a married couple or their progressing relationship for that matter. Which person is going to support this knowing the real ages of the actors seeing a lets say (mild) kiss scene between the leads (for those who actually want to see an actual relationship in the show, its not that enjoyable with the limits due to the age factor)? A lot of persons will go up in arms for this, its like seeing an adult corrupting a minor in this case.
Though we like Yoo Seung Ho the actor, he is still a minor in our eyes. A relationship with another teen actress is fine with most of us, but I don't like the idea of him acting as an adult before his time, he may be mature, but in my view he is not ready for this type of mature role.
The main lead should be an adult. The romantic/mature scenes that are called for should be able to satisfy both the viewer and others when acted by that person. Yoo Seung Ho can be in a supporting role since I don't know much about the show he could play a the brother who play mental games/chess with the whole family & others for a variety of reasons, his partner in crime can be either a fellow teenage girl with similar perspective or the maid's live-in teen daughter who he likes but do not dare touch she can either be a cynic or a mildly naive person intelligence however would be high. There are so many things that he would be able to do in that role.
I believe the reason he was selected was because of his abilities and popularity. But rest assured I would not be watching this show at all if this is what they are going to do with it.

Sorry too cut your review short but there a BIG intimacy limitation regardless of the actor/actress age. There are actor/actress in they 30 that is limited with just a kiss, so them playing a married couple intimacy would not be an issue because K-drama don’t take it there. In most drama when the couple is married regardless if they old or young they just hug, so them playing a married couple and doing romantic scenes is not an issue. Korean dramas don’t display married couple, dare I say it….SEX! It display with hugging and piggyback rides, so I think it acceptable to see these too talent people take on this kind of role. I think most people are not getting what the word ACT mean.......It fiction; make believe, not real, untrue, false, pretend, that what acting is! One of my favorite movies Taxis drivers had 14 old actresses Jodie foster played a young 12-year-old child prostitute. That role gave her nomination for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. Jodie Foster the person attended a French-language prep school, the Lycée Français de Los Angeles, and graduated in 1980 as the valedictorian. The roles she played as an actress had no reflection on her as a person. It very hypocrite to be okay with older people playing younger roles but a younger person can't play an older role. It could be my America cultures but I don’t’ see the problem

"Can’t Rich Daddy just keep it in his pants?" HAHA totally made my day :D
YSH seems a bit young for Seo Woo, i mean she is more mature in not only age but also acting wise as she has played a more large variety of roles ranging from more adult roles to kiddy roles. whereas YSH so far has only being playing high schooler roles so it would be wierd to see him as a high schooler and then suddenly *bam* he's a married man =/ it just doesn't seem right....
i would have preferred her to be paired up with a more mature actor.....
I would give this drama a try but i'll still think of YSH as a high school kid getting ahead of his time (heck I'm the same age as him and yet I haven't even considered marriage :|)

That is an eight year age difference. As a 25 year old she would feel really uncomfortable doing kiss scenes with a 17 year old. Maybe they should hire an older actor and let the kid stick to playing high school roles for a whille.

Maybe one of the scandals on the show is that Seo Woo's character is older than she said in her debut, and she gets Yoo Seung-ho to marry her to portray that they are "high school sweethearts" (which would satire the semi-frequent scandals that have occurred before). Though it's probably a pregnancy drama.
As for the age different, it doesn't really bother me. I'm more concerned about their chemistry. If they don't have any, or Yoo Seung-ho character acts really young compared to Seo Woo (unless it's plot related), it will be very uncomfortable to watch.
I'm excited to see how this turns outs even though I don't usually watch weekend shows.

If we look at Yoo Seung-ho's character in "Queen Seon Deok" he actually came across as quite mature and older than his age.
In general, 8 years difference is not much though it can be if one of the parties is underage so I think we are likely to see a love-hate relationship like in "Goong" rather than constant make-out sessions.

Thank You, #26 to stop me from thinking I'm the crazy one. What the deal with all the negative comments, he 17 so what? All K-drama kisses are kindergarten so where all the angst coming from. The role he playing isn't 17 and I sure he pull of being a man. As for her being 25 so what! it acting not real live.....people chill and get a life, this stuff happen every day it not the end of the world. Wow, really? This sounds like a mess to me..I mean, 50 episodes with a typical, worn plot, adding the complication of not being able to have any "intimate" scenes because of the inappropriate real-life age difference. How would that satisfy viewers? They could add twists to make the plot fresh and compelling, but even so, with the information we have now, I'm sure not sold.
And I agree, they should have chosen Yoo Seung-ho for another important character, not for the main char that's someone( adult)'s husband! Underage is still underage...

Having just watched his movie 'The Way Home', all I can think of when I see YSH is; Kentucky Chicken? (Aww!)
So, he's done some growing up, I guess.
His almost-kiss scene in GoS was pretty cute, but even then it didn't feel right. Now imagining him making out and play HUSBAND to Seo Woo is plain incomprehensible. Just... weird!
And Shim Eun-kyung trying to play a role beyond her years too? What is this, Bugsy Malone?
About Kim Soo-hyun, at 22 and I guess that's much better, but nah, he's Lee Seong-mo. Let this awesome, memorable character he played resonate with us that little bit longer before he ventures into standard fare like weekend shows and rom-coms. (I mean, I don't want him to starve for his art, let the kid make some money... someday).
Besides, I'm still a little erm, violated after the gisaeng house scene (was it only me who was a tad uneasy with it?). Don't think I could imagine him playing husband any more than YSH, really.

Woah a minute here.
Flames of Ambition a downgrade for any actor involved in this project? Oh ho ho, eh, NO.
This is no ordinary weekend 50 ep family drama. This is MBC's grand masterpience, luring Jung Ha Yeon to write this sure to be motherfraking awesomesauce subversion of the richie riches with their pants can't stay up problems.
This man wrote: Shin Don, Count of Myeondeong, La Dolce Vita, Empress Myung Sung, and countless other widely acclaimed dramas.
Yoo Seung Ho and Seo Woo are darn lucky to be cast in this project, and deserve the chance to stretch their considerable talents. I'll pretent YSH is at least 20 and I'm good with that.
Gangstakitteh - will you share this cast, pretty please? :-)

Then again, from what I've seen of both actors, she is a very young 25 yr-o and he's a professional, though he's 17. If its done well, I think that it would be very believable and adorable. Acting is acting so as long as they "look" good and act well together, age shouldn't really be an issue.
Someone made the point that some scenes will be hard to execute(marriage scenes, kissing) because of his age and for that I think fans might be disappointed. However, we don't really know the entire premise of the drama, or what the dynamics between characters really will be.The age difference my be apart of the actual storyline. Plus, I'm sure the producers and casting directors know what is needed from the characters and have chosen actors they believe will fit the characters appropriately.
This makes me think of JGS in Hwang Jin Yi. Yes its true nothing really happened but they were supposed to be in love(even though it was short lived).
Ultimately, I look forward to them both. I think they will be cute ;)
