Shim Eun-kyung plays young Merchant Kim Man-deok
by javabeans
One of Korea’s favorite child actresses, 15-year-old Shim Eun-kyung, will once again be stepping into a childhood sageuk role; she’ll be playing the younger counterpart to Lee Mi-yeon‘s title character in the upcoming historical drama Merchant Kim Man-deok.
She has already played notable childhood roles in television dramas Hwang Jini (whose adult role was played by Ha Ji-won) and Legend (adult role played by Lee Jia). She actually won the same youth acting award twice at the KBS Drama Awards, in 2006 for Hwang Jini and in 2008 for Women in the Sun.
Lee Mi-yeon said, “I started acting at a young age, and it’s like looking back at my younger days. I think she is an actor full of charm who will captivate viewers in the early episodes. I see a a smart young Man-deok in Shim Eun-kyung, so I have faith in her.”
Merchant Kim Man-deok tells the story of a low-born woman who works her way up to becoming a great merchant of the Joseon age, and is based on a true historical figure. The KBS1 drama will air on weekends and will premiere this Saturday, March 6.

This looks interesting in an almost Dae Jang Geum kind of way... I hope they have some romance/comedy in it as well.. and if no romance at least a bunch of comedy!

Such a big fan of Shim Eun-kyung--I feel like everything she's been in has executed so well (Hansel & Gretel is one of my favorite movies and not just because of Chun Jung-myung). Can't wait to see this!

I love Shim Eun-kyung! She caught my attention in the Hwang Jini mvs, but I fell in love with her after watching her in Legend. even though she is playing a childhood role, she's still growing up *tear* i wasn't about to watch this drama....but now i'm thinking about it.

The last pic reminds of Queen Seondeok's dream (young Deokman being hugged by Queen Seondeok in white) when she first came to Manno Fortress to look for Munno.
