Road No. 1 casts Yoon Kye-sang
by javabeans
Yessssss!
Yoon Kye-sang has signed on to join So Ji-sub and Kim Haneul in MBC’s war epic series Road No. 1, which is bound to be one of the big buzz shows of next year. With those three leads in place (as well as Choi Min-soo and Sohn Chang-min), the main cast is now complete.
Yoon Kye-sang and So Ji-sub will play comrades and friends, while the love triangle with Kim Haneul will additionally set the two up as rivals. The Korean War drama takes its title from the name of the road that served as the main passageway from North Korea into Seoul, and from Seoul into Pyeongyang, during the war in 1950.
The cast held their first script reading at the MBC Dream Center in Ilsan on December 19. The production begins filming on January 4 and airs in June, in time to commemorate the sixty years that have passed since the war.
Road No. 1 was already a drama to watch, but I LOVE YOON KYE-SANG. (So Ji-sub and Kim Haneul ain’t too shabby, either, of course!) We can just purge Yoon’s last drama from our memories (or at least from mine); while Triple certainly had its charm, his role was consistently one of the most frustrating of the bunch. I felt saddened at how ill-used he was by the wishy-washy writing of his character. As he said in a recent interview, he is more known for his more serious roles anyway (as in his most recent film, Executioners), so this is looking good.

Woah, awesome cast!
Yes, I really, REALLY did NOT like his role in Triple. Stalker much?
Thank goodness he's getting a better role.
But when did Choi Min Soo come out of self exile!?!? That guy is one awesome actor and when he went into self exile, I thought I'd never see him on tv again! Too bad he didn't do that Hollywood movie.....

YESSSSSS! I am so SO EXCITED! Two of my favorite actors together onscreen! WOOHOOO!!!
Loved Yoon Kye-sang since "My Sister in law is 19" though his last role Triple wasn't exactly that great. This was already my top choice for next year after Chuno b/c of SJS, but this is just the icing on the cake.

Well while his acting as serious characters is usually great, when I really fell for his charm was in "Who Are You." He even made Ara look like a good actress through his leadership (don't know how to put this right but I think his good acting carried her and brought out her best)
Hope he won't be pinning over KHN too much in this one and used to his full potential... seems like SJS is the spotlight here and will be the one getting the girl, unless he meets a tragic end..don't want to be pessimistic but it's a serious kr epic war movie so someone's bound to die. (I love both so it will be tough for me! Hope it wont be another iris...and hope the writing will be able to carry through and not end up like EOE...)
Anyhow look forward to this new project, glad KS found his place in acting, cuz while he was cute in his GOD days, I personally think this is definitely the better path for him

I'm not that excited cuz a Love Triangle is fun but annoying. What if YKS becomes another Jung Il Woo in My Fair Lady? ->big disappointment

I love YKS, I can't help it!! He is a really great actor and has such an endearing quality. I hope this project does well, I like SJS and KHN as well, so I am looking forward to this.

"The cast held their first script reading at the MBC Dream Center in Ilsan on December 19. "
So Ji Sub AND Yoon Kye-sang in the same cast and in the one location script reading - Dream Center indeed!!!
While Cain and Abel was an imperfect kdrama - So Ji Sub still gave a performance that made me love him even more. Looking forward to this drama. Pencilling this one already into the 2010 kdrama calendar.

I'm so happy!
I LOVEEEEEEEEE Yoon Kye Sang!
It's great to see him acting with 2 other actors I like: Kim Haneul again (Kye Sang had great chemistry with her in '6 Years In Love' and I think Haneul is adorable) and with So Ji Sub (I loved him in 'I'm Sorry I Love You' and 'Rough Cut').
Hopefully this drama with be a huge sucess and hopefully his character is well-written and allow him to show all his talent! :)

Sounds really exciting! MBC is definately making up for the lack of exciting projects (I am extremely dissapointed that a drama like Pasta will be fillind Mon-Tues timeslot -which has always been MBC's powerhouse/EPIC slot)
I will definately watch since it seems like a makjang type of drama! I hope it'll achieve the same amount or more success than/as East of Eden -with no epic messy ending.

This drama is definitely going to be worth watching, even though I'm not normally one for dramas set in the past, but this one is definitely interesting and it has two of my favorite Korean actors in it! Definitely worth it.

Omg JB, yes, I shall also purge Triple from YKS's repertoire. I absolutely was disgusted with his character - I love my villains but gosh, his character was worse than a villain. He has so much talent still left unexposed...please let this drama give him due justice in displaying his acting capability.

wowzers.....saying that playing a lead against So Ji Sup without being upstaged is a big undertaking is an understatement.
As much as I love Yoon Kye Sang, would he become invisible next to So's charismatic presence? Being that playing serious roles is So's forte?
Let's hope not!

... i love watching YKS & have watched all of his dramas & movies, except for the Executioners!!! Am so looking forward to him & KHN re-teaming up again + SJS is an admirable actor, too. Such a charming cast...hope the story won't favor SJS all that much...I'd rather see YKS as the lead rather than a poor third-wheel!!

He looks like So Ji Sub. I now have a backup if my plans to marry SJS fall through.

I am surprised that YKS has so many fans (english speaking fans!) because for more than 2 years, I thought I was only one of the handful. He was so vulnerable, sweet and naive in flying boys, a little grown-up in 'she's 19' and I have faithfully waited for 2 years for him to be out of the army for his next showdown. He is a such fine actor and I wish him all the best in his next project.

I too love Yoon Kye-sang. He's such a good actor. He looks young and mischivious, but can play mature roles. I can't wait for The Executioners to be available with English subtitles.
As for So Ji Sub, I like what he has been on from I am Sorry, I Love You and on, including Cain and Abel, which I don't feel it was that horrible. I liked it.
Looks like there will be a few good Kdramas to look forward to in 2010. I'll [rpbably be watching this one though I would rather not see war movies or dramas (last war kdrama I saw was Seoul 1945, which I found draggy).

"As much as I love Yoon Kye Sang, would he become invisible next to So’s charismatic presence?"
Actually I think Yoon Kye Sang may be a better actor than So Ji Sub. He's funny in both dramas and movies, which isn't the same kind of funny acting.

I'm Leila, I'm sending this email from Tehran. I ove Yoon Kye Sang. I didn't see "the Road No. 1" , I have just seen "who are you?" and I love him. Be sure I will find his another movies and I will see them and will enjoy. He is really a good actor, hansome, nice smiling. I think no korean actor can compare him, because he is wonderful and he is my love.

Im so sad it ended.
I like all of the characters, and I hope a drama like this one will happen again.
Road Number One is the best!

Whoah... i want to make comment of his acting in road no.1. Even though this drama is not achieve good rating, but i like YKS role here than So Ji Sub role. I think being third wheel make people sympathy to the character. His role is very serious here, so I miss his cute smile. His acting skill improve in every production that he takes. I saw almost all of his drama, since my sister in law is 19. He can deliver funny role or serious one. good for you Yoon Kye Sang Nim. Look forward for your next drama.
