Song Chang-eui returns as Hedwig
by javabeans
After a few years of film and drama projects, actor Song Chang-eui (Cinderella Man, Boys Don’t Cry, Scale of Providence) is keeping his promise to fans in returning to the title role of the musical Hedwig (aka Hedwig and the Angry Inch). He had originally taken the role of the transgender rocker back in 2006 to much praise, and out of the many actors who played the part (Jo Seung-woo included), Song Chang-eui has generally been called by fans the Hedwig they’d most like to see back.
At those words of support, Song had promised to return onstage as Hedwig in the future, and now he’s making good: fans will be able to see him performing beginning January 15. He has assured fans that he will revive the fun that he’d had in the past: “As three years have passed, I’d like to satisfy fans above their expectations with a much upgraded Hedwig. Hedwig is a person with a lot of hurt and pain, but doesn’t show it and act depressed or sad. In order to show a bright and strong rocker image, I’ll create yet another Hedwig.”
Most recently, Song Chang-eui has acted in the film The Tree that Sleeps Standing as a firefighter married to Seo Ji-hye. The new production of Hedwig runs from November 14 through February 28 of next year, although Song doesn’t take the stage until January.

Hedwig and the Angry Inch is one of my all time favorite musicals. I pretty much *breathed* it in high school. I used to know all the songs by heart and I could mouth along to the dialogue ... I had no idea there was a Korean version of the show. I wish I could see this!

YES!!! Love, love, LOVE Hedwig. Like imanonaut, I had all the songs memorized at one point. Song Chang Eui looks great, and seems to suit the character very well. John Cameron Mitchell would be proud, lol. I wish Oh Man Seok would return to Hedwig, too. And that I could actually see it. *sigh*

Omo...I can't believe it! Yay! I loved the film and I have the whole soundtrack. It got a lot of haters in my crowd, though, so that's why I'm surprised....I'm so auf'd.
I wonder if the story still has him coming from East Germany? I freakin' adored John Cameron Mitchell's accent, haha.
