Hero’s first poster shows a comic side to Lee Junki
by javabeans
Maybe MBC’s newsroom drama Hero will be better than its artwork. Because I think most of us agree that the artwork for the drama (such as the official promo photos and some of its behind-the-scenes stills) is looking a bit lackluster.
The copy on the top reads, “Look out for Jin Do-hyuk’s exclusive scoop!” The smaller copy near the bottom reads, “Korea’s small hero.”
Lee Junki’s Do-hyuk character is a passionate (overzealous?) reporter for a shabby publication called Monday Seoul, who goes all-out in pursuit of a story — spying, following, wiretapping, disguising, and general skulking around. Lee said of his character, “In the drama, Do-hyuk takes on reckless challenges in search of his target. He courageously speaks for those who are weak, and in search of uncovering the truth, he even acts takes on paparazzi acts.”
The drama is up against some heavy competition; it premieres on November 11 against KBS’s blockbuster IRIS and SBS’s solid mania hit You’re Beautiful.

it's interesting to see him act in comedy story. Paparazzi?hahaha at least i never watch any drama that main actor is paparazzi before, then it will be freshing story to me (personally ^ ^ )
i know it will be tough for HERO to compete with Iris and YAB. But as long as it can prove itself that story and acting are good. viewer like me won't care about rating of other dramas. i want to enjoy it because of leejunki and other casts.

Damn. They managed to make unattractive the world's most beautiful eyes! Who are the photographers for the promos? Let me guess -- the local neighborhood amateur photography club for disaffected youths.
Also, are there no other days in the week when they could have slotted Hero? There is no way this show can compete against Iris and YAB.
I must say, if the show is all out slapstick Scooby Doo-ish type of comedy, then it might find a niche.
I slogging my way through Iljamae, so there is much I am willing to bear for my man JunKi.
Btw, what does "solid mania hit" mean? I am saddened by the low ratings for YAB, but apparently it's a "mania hit"? Does that mean cult hit? I am guessing so...

Lee Junki's character has potential to be very, very annoying....
I don't think I'll watch this. I'm feeling a strong "meh" here. And I agree with #3 that it stands no chance against the "mania" force that is...IRIS. Anyone looking for something different is going to watch YAB, not this.
Harsh is harsh.

I'm already faithfully following IRIS and You're Beautiful. Will probably have to skip this. Doesn't sound terribly interesting to me.

I would watch Junki peel potatoes for an hour. But this has a better chance I think, in hte Mon-Tues slot now that QSS ratings have leveled off and is steady. I think it's going to be an uphill battle for my Junki, sigh. Hopefully, ratings be damned, this will be a good and entertaining drama.

so sad that it has to pit against IRIS and You're Beautiful. I really want this drama to have good ratings. Though the photography is a bit mediocre (any amateur could have put it together), I really do like the feel of the promo pictures/poster- they definitely carried an off-beat sort of feel to it.

Got it! Reminds me of Lawyers of Korea. Where they don't actually practice law, but go around doing random, unrelated, unprofessional stuff. And being generally annoying, and making me resolving to avoid Lee Soo-Kyung like the plague. Please don't. Maybe Mr. Lee Junki has more natural charm?

@Nom,
"Btw, what does “solid mania hit” mean? I am saddened by the low ratings for YAB, but apparently it’s a “mania hit”? Does that mean cult hit? I am guessing so…"
More or less, it means all the kids are watching this online. (The moms control the remote in the house, and they're watching Iris.) They have other metrics to track the popularity of the show, and YB is very, very popular among the youth demographic.

Yikes. Turns out that Kim Min Jung injured her shoulder and may need surgery. The production may be in serious danger unless MBC figures out a way to delay the show.
