Chae Rim prepares for new role in Good Job
by javabeans
Chae Rim is returning to television with a new short haircut and a new skill (pottery).
She’s taking the lead in MBC’s weekend drama Good Job (which literally translates to the somewhat redundant-in-English “Good job, good job”), starring opposite Eom Ki-joon in the role recently vacated by Myung Se-bin.
Her character works at a ceramic and pottery company, and also creates her own pieces. As we can see in these photos, Chae Rim has been busy studying pottery daily in preparation for her role, while her formerly long hair was chopped short to match her character’s single-mom status.
In the drama, Chae Rim’s character has a child with an ex played by Kim Seung-soo. After the split, she meets a handsome younger man (Eom Ki-joon), but their developing relationship is interrupted by the return of the ex. I hope, uh, the drama itself is more interesting than the description, because Eom Ki-joon is capable of acting the heck out of a character and I’d hate to see him relegated to the mere (read: boring) “good, younger handsome man” role.
This drama marks Chae Rim’s first project after her last drama, KBS’s action drama Rivals, ended a year ago. That series was something of a disappointment, although her previous turn in Dal Ja’s Spring with Lee Min-ki had been a cheerful comeback role for her, following a divorce and several years away from Korean television.
Good Job airs in March, after Moon Sori’s Golden Age of My Life wraps.

even since Lee Min Ki in Dal Ja's Spring, i've been waiting for them to match Chae Rim up with a guy that can totally act up to par with her, as Chae Rim is a pretty excellent actress. that's why i'm so excited that Eom Ki Joon is her new partner. he's so charming and convincing as an actor. he was the best thing in World's Within, and he's quite handsome too. i'm looking forward to these two together, though i hope they give Eom Ki Joon's character more personality. he's really good at being clever, sarcastic, and a jerk!!! I'm glad Chae Rim is back and she looks fantastic with the haircut.
one question though: how old is Chae Rim's character that Eom Ki Joon's character is considered a "younger, handsome man"? I mean, Eom looks like he's the same age as Chae Rim. weird.

@coollady, it was said the EKJ's age is 30 I think, and CR's 32. :)
I'm so excited to see Chae Rim again. She looks really cute with her new hair. Reminds me of her good ol' days. She looks really young again. :)
Really looking forward to see her new drama. She's always have a knack in choosing good projects, well except maybe for Rivals and a few of her works but then in Rivals, she was injured (thus, maybe the change in script).
Its always good to watch her. :)

If I have one complaint about your blog, it's that you don't actually tell us the Korean name. Its not okay in just English, you know, especially because there are many English titles and translations. '

hajung, thanks for the comment. I'll keep that in mind. However, you could click on the source article, or even the post linked to in this post, as both have the title. It's 잘했군 잘했어.
Question for future reference: Are you asking for the Korean title every time something is referenced? Because that could get tiresome. Or do you mean just when I talk about something for the first time? Does your complaint extend to titles like Cain and Abel, which are just Koreanized versions of the names in English?

admittedly, she looks good, but I miss her old face.
I liked Chae-rim back in her old dramas for her spunky cuteness, like in All About Eve with Jang Dong Gun and Kim Soyeon.
I get that K-celebs are competing with these younger actresses (fixed up at younger ages) but it's hard for me to watch Chae-rim and Sung Yuri now when their new, pointy (and thick?!) noses are what fill up my vision. T_T

Oh, I think that she was also good in Rivals. I was not happy when KBS didn't include her in the set of nominees in the KBS Drama Awards based on her performance, because I think that she was great in the drama, however, the ending of the drama was unsatisfactory.

Chae Rim looks 10 years older than she was in Dalja's Spring, this haircut is not flattering for her (Dalja's Spring... such a good drama).

Sometimes in this time slot, you get a great MBC show like Noona. Since this is a reunion between Chae Rim and the writer of "All About Eve", kinda hoping for some of the same magic. Plus you have Kim Seung Woo, Kim Jung Hwa and Son Ho Young(!) in this show too. It would be kinda awesome if Song Il Guk made an appearance, just to say to his evil half-brother and evil wife.

Son Ho Young's not included anymore in this drama. He pulled out already.
@ hmmm
Myung Se Bin pulled out due to health reason, thus she was replaced by Chae Rim who agreed to take the part since she had worked with the writer in All About Eve and I'm Still Loving You in the past.

Apparently, Chae Rim was planning to do another TW-drama before committing to this show, which was something she decided only after a few days. She'd be perfect for a fusion show like Iljimae or Princess Ma Jung. She's never done a sageuk, yet almost all her Chinese shows are period romances.

I think not a Taiwan drama but a Chinese drama (mainland). There were offers before for her to do sageuk dramas but she refused. But that was the time when the news came out about the "divorce".

Really? The writer of AAE is teaming up with Chae Rim again? Wow, now I'm really looking forward to this drama! Chaerim's short hair does bring back memories of the spunky, cute & lovable Sunmi from AAE. If only JDG can make a cameo appearance in here somewhere....lol

(a late) reply:
Well I suppose just when you first mention it. It came to my attention when I tried to talk about dramas with my non English speaking Korean friend who could never understand what show/movie I was talking about, haha.
About Cain and Abel- Until now, I didn't actually know that Cain and Abel was just a romanization of the actual title. So if you could mention that?

"The writer of AAE is teaming up with Chae Rim again? Wow, now I’m really looking forward to this drama! Chaerim’s short hair does bring back memories of the spunky, cute & lovable Sunmi from AAE. "
Yup, that's the hope. Chae Rim accepted the role only a few days after it was offered to her, because she wanted to work with writer Park Ji Hyun again (who also worked with Chae on Loving You.) I don't think she'd have accepted working on a weekend drama (50 episodes!) otherwise, esp. since she did have a planned mando-drama (thanks anon!)
It would be awesome if they slipped a JDG reference somewhere. Like having Chae Rim watch Taegukgi on TV with her mom . . .
Mom: "Oh I love this movie! Jang Dong Gun, does he ever age?"
Chae: "I prefer Won Bin."
Mom: "Why?"
Chae: "I don't know. Jang Dong Gun is SO overrated! Mom, I heard he knows yakuza!"
Mom: "Really? Oh I don't like him anymore. Won Bin is SO hot."
Chae: "Mine! Won Bin is mine!"
