Kim Jae-won to make his drama return
by javabeans
It’s been two years since he last acted in the drama Hwang Jini (and before that Great Inheritance and Wonderful Life), but the man with the killer smile, Kim Jae-won, has finally picked his next project (woot woot) — as the leading man of a Chinese drama.
Set to start filming in late September, the drama First Love (working title) will be produced by a subsidiary that JS Pictures, the production entity behind the currently running Gourmet, has set up in China.
First Love is being planned as a 20-episode trendy drama that is being aimed for a Chinese, rather than Korean, broadcast. It will cast Chinese leads opposite Kim Jae-won and employ a mostly Chinese film crew, although the director is PD Lee Chang-han of the kdramas Wonderful Life, My Sister-in-Law- is Nineteen and SBS’s recent I Love You.
Any Chi-Eng subbers up for this one? *wink wink nudge nudge*

Oh wow! Interesting.
@ bebo
He'll be dubbed for sure. All the Korean actors and actresses are dubbed (e.g. Jang Nara, Chae Rim).
Heck, even the Chinese ones are sometimes dubbed!

God that is so awkward. When the korean actor just speaks in korean and everyone else is speaking chinese. Then later they dub over the korean actor and the audience is amazed at how "fluent" he/she is at speaking chinese. Can't he just do a korean drama. I honestly miss seeing his bright smile.

Didn't take you for a KJW fan at all!
Granted I've only seen him in My Nineteen Year Old Sister in Lawn and a little bit of Romance, but...eh...he didn't excite me or inspire me with his smile.

Same here. He's ok, but he doesn't make the cut in my world. I don't mean it to be mean.... Now if it is So Ji Sub, I'll go nuts.

I didn't realize you were a KJW fan...I love his smile. I haven't seen him in a lot, but in what I have, he totally wins you with that smile.
Ah...talking about smiles is making me think of Kang Ji Hwan....sigh.

Almost certainly be voice dubbed, though if he can in fact speak chinese, he may be able to do the dubbing himself, as did Jang Nara in her last chinese drama, Chun Bai Zhi Lian / Good Morning Shanghai
That is acting in korean then sitting in studio and doing the voice dub in chinese, without the pressure of trying to act at the same time.
Pity Jang Nara making a Korean movie right now, be nice to see them acting together again re My Love Patzzi and as she Chinese Based now it could have worked nicely..ow well

Voice dubbing is pretty normal for mainlander dramas, and it happens a lot even to Taiwanese and Cantonese actors if their dialect of Mandarin isn't appropriate for the show. In a poll some years ago, Cai Ling ranked among the top 5 or 6 most popular actresses in Taiwan. "Cai Ling" is Chae Rim.

ooh! a chinese drama...although, i've never really watched a chinese drama - as in filmed in China. I think Taiwan dramas are better although they speak the same language, only with different accents. Although my chinese isn't really good, i might try subbing it! :D dramas from mysoju.com like 'it started with a kiss' had subtitles that were not very accurate...it bugs me for some reason - and makes me wonder how well some korean dramas fan subs are subbed (there's no doubt in my mind that subs on dvds are wayy inaccurate. for example in a chinese drama, "好像(hao xiang)", which means 'apparently' or 'like', was translated into "good elephant". =_=" way to go subbers. really convincing. AND TO THINK THEY GET PAID TO DO THAT. >:| )

Oh gosh. If he acts in a China production, I'm going to scream because their dubbing sucks.
Their accent is REALLY difficult to listen to. &I totally skipped KimJungHoon's chinese drama cos of the dubbing.

Yup.. i totally agree that there are some atrocious subs for mandarin dramas out there that make me cringe. They take each individual word and translate it literally, resulting in really stupid translations. I don't mind chipping in as well! Feel free to contact me!

Yeah the Mainland dubs are pretty bad.
I think sometimes to save time they have different people dub different parts. So all of a sudden the voice (and even the name!) will change :)
The best dubs are from Taiwan.
All the k-dramas that are dubbed by Taiwanese companies are really fantastic. The lip movement and the voices match almost perfectly.
The TVB dubs aren't bad, but they use the same people over and over again so if you watch multiple dramas it does sound a little funny.

@ wHOOsh - korean dramas are well subbed in my experience. at least withs2's subs are good, with not too many mistakes. but i've seen mistakes in pro subs too so that's not to big a deal.

i hate dubbed movies/dramas too. it's not as bad when it's the actor's own voices dubbed over their original voices after filming but it just ruins the whole film for me when it's someone entirely different. so this project already sounds bad to me but then again, i'm not a fan of chinese dramas anyway...they're too damn long! kdrama's are long enough...i put my foot down at 24 episodes! that's why i love jdramas b/c they only run on average 11 episodes. i have quite a short attention span!

I hope they don't dub Kim Jae Won because he has a great manly voice. I miss him. I never watch Chinese drama, but if Jae Won is in the drama, I will surely watch it. I love his "killer smile", real cute.
