The new Madam Jung
by javabeans
First Han Ye-seul was cast in the drama version of gambling-related Tazza, supposedly in the Madam Jung role initially played by Kim Hye-soo in the film. Then the role was un-cast, with reps backpedaling to say that Han’s role was not certain. And then she was re-cast, but as a different character altogether.
That means Madam Jung was open to new casting, which will now be filled by Kang Sung-yeon (Single Papa in Love), who just shot the drama’s promo poster. There had been reports of another actress, Sung Hyun-ah, being cast at the same time, but Kang ended up winning the role. She’ll star opposite Jang Hyuk, Han Ye-seul, and Kim Min-joon.
Tazza starts shooting on the 25th, and will follow Gourmet‘s Monday-Tuesday SBS slot beginning on September 8. I… still have no idea what to expect from the drama. (So far, it’s not much.)

Asking Ye Seul to play Madame Jung (i.e. match Hye Soo) would have been like asking Jang Geun Seuk to play Jumong. So I'm glad they're originating a character for her. She's the weak link in the cast, and I think she can bring the show down a lot if she's especially bad here. That said, Ye Seul and Hyuk are one photogenic, even sexy couple.
Looking forward to Jang Hyuk and Kim Gab Soo playing off each other, that should be delightful.
I actually think Kang Sung-yeon is a stronger actress than Hye-soo. She tends to add melancholy overtones into her non-comic roles, so it'll be a new wrinkle of Madame Jung.

I think Sung Hyun-Ah would've made a better match than Kang Sung-Yeon. But then again, Madam Jung's sex appeal is endless, which means it's pretty much impossible to outshine the original Madam Jung: Kim HyeSoo.

"Is she the so-called little Kim Tae Hee?"
That's Heo Yi Jae (Goong S.) Ye Seul is "Barbie Doll." So, uhh, little Han Chae Young? :D
Funny that you mention Tae Hee though, because I think this would have been an ideal role for her. It would have given her a chance to do TV and break through her image without overreaching her abilities.

yeah good luck with the role. hyesoo was too strong & "explicit" in the movie, i wonder how they'll play her just getting by on innuendos. i find kang sung-yeon compelling almost like a car accident you can't look away from. no she's not a "bad" actress. she does have a head-bashed-against-wall style, playing everything to the hilt that forces you to look on with alarm.

Pretty much agree with everyone about Kim Hye Soo as THE Madame Jung, but isn't it funny how so many people feel Han Ye Seul can't act yet she won the best new actress award? Just goes to show how much of a joke these Korean award shows are.

Hmm....I might possibly have offended her. She's refusing to do the 'Three-Bears' performance for me tonight. Bah! A headache is not a good enough excuse!

Kang Sung-yeon is good as Mdm Jung in the role. It suits her. If its the girl from US (CA) acting as Mdm Jung......... i think its rather weird?
