For the bored and random
by javabeans
Keke. Totally just for kicks and giggles…
Today’s useless but amusing toy of the day comes via Pop Candy, which, if you’re unaware, is a fantastic blog on American/Western pop culture. Not the Perez Hilton-y, slagging-on-poptarts (or as they say, “celebutard”) kind of pop culture, but a witty, smart, ironic kind that skews a little Gen X and geek-chic, but is infinitely more readable and satisfying. If you’re into that kind of thing, that is.
Anyway. Wonder what you’d look like as an anime character? Try running a photo through the Face Transformer tool here. I tried it on myself, and the anime/manga setting is by far the most flattering. The “mucha” option yields decent results, but inevitably the Modigliani option brings out the chinkiness in all of us using the “East Asian” setting, and the Botticelli tends to make you look like a desiccated mummy (redundant?). Or third-degree burn victim.
Since I’m not about to post pics of myself up on the internet, and I’m feeling a bit of Coffee Prince withdrawal, I figured, why not kill two birds with one procrastinatory stone?
(Random) SONG OF THE DAY
The Melody – “Everything N’Nothing.” Someone asked for more of The Melody, so here’s my favorite song from their first album. [ zShare download ]

What’s funny is that Yoon Eun Hye, and by extension, Eun Chan, totally already looks like an anime character.
You know what’s funnier? If you select the option to “feminize” Gong Yoo’s face, it comes out looking almost exactly the same! No joke. I tried it on several different pictures (because it took a while to get a result that I thought was remotely interesting looking).

Javabeans,
You're a hoot. You always have something interestying to say and yes, I am experiencing a bit of Coffee Prince withdrawal. And I haven't even seen the last episode yet because it hasn't been posted in english!
Thanks for making my life so interesting.
My new interest? Korean MP3 music, all because of you. :)

i love your procrastinations. i checked out the face transformations tool, and it's nifty! haha. i was laughing so hard. i shared my pics with my siblings, and even tried it on our dad. His baby pic has blackmail potential. haha. i'll possibly post an entry and share all of my pics, yes, even the ape man one. haha.
do share your manga one. :P
thanks for the laughter. i needed that after today.
p.s. i thought you said you tried to "feminize" eun chan's face, and it still looked the same. i guess i'm still impressed with yoon eun hye's "transformation" from cutesy female to My Chan. :)

i amazed when i watched cp and saw his character (and behaviour) was more feminine than eun chan's character was masculine, and surprised that that was never commented on.

I love checking out your blog. So cool you read Pop Candy too. Whitney is profiling her dedicated readers. It just happened that I got the e-mail today, and I should see my profile pop on a Pop Forum Post after the Early Buzz in the near future. I am excited!

Since this is announced as random territory, and it does start off with a "Keke" tittering noise, can I risk asking for any native or bilingual views on this statement re laughter sounds (which isn't completely irrelevant to some of the gender stereotyping issues raised recently):
" The bright vowels 오 and 아 express 'cute' or 'feminine' sounds and manners, whereas the dark vowels 우 and 어 denote their big or 'masculine' counterparts: 허허 (masculine laugh) 하하 (children's laugh) 호호 (feminine laugh). "
(from: Integrated Korean, Intermediate 1 p. 226)
Do those distinctions chime with people's actual experience or usage re laughter noises, or is this just textbook systematising?
I note there's no 후후 there (Gangster boss laugh??) And what jolly noise do Korean Santas make?
OK, back to Face Transforming our cats and various other, less innocent, victims. What fun!

Ha! Ha! Thanks Javabean for this hilarious site. I spend hours changing my whole family face into manga cartoon, which I will be printing out and send to them one by one :D
I am never bored when I am in your site, which I checked almost every couple of hours in the day. I am having withdrawal (from really not having real coffee, doctor's order) too so it is good thing you posted the site. It wil keep me occupied these couple days. Just finish watching THANK YOU, FLOWER FOR LIFE and just starting on THE DEVIL. Thanks again Javabean. I always learn something new here.

like the rest of CP addicts, i am also suffering from CP widthrawal syndrome. I am sooo sad. I feel so bereft.***sigh***.
like cg96, i don't feel like watching any Korean dramas at the moment. They all pale in comparison to CP. Hence i am trying to entertain myself with Hana Kimi Japanese version. It did managed to take me away from my addiction for the duration of the episode. But it ends there and I am back zero again.

hahahaha hilarious! should try my own photos. hehehe. and i totally feel you, absolutely experiencing major withdrawal symptoms on cp. sigh. sooo excited to grab final subs. but in the meantime, watching it again from the first cup, hmmmmm.
and thanks for the random song, they (the melody) sound real good! glad to have discovered them through cp and your blog. any other recommendations?!? your taste in k music is impeccable, and for a non-korean speaking gal, your posts have helped me develop a pretty keen interest in k music! i've been playing the entire cp soundtrack and all the episode music bits every morning (it's quite an upper i must say)! looking forward to more posts (on cp, music and what not)!!!! :D

hey gramps, i know that book. i use integrated korean, but i'm still a lowly beginner. :*(
i have no comment on that particular topic you brought up because i am not native nor bilingual (in korean). but that's an interesting point. i always thought (at least in my language) that the (bwa)hahaha, hohoho, hihihi, hehehe distinctions are related to the loudness or intensity of the laughter (with the bwahaha as the loudest) and not to gender.

Thought some of you might be interested. I just read this "MBC have interest for Coffee Prince Season 2" at http://www.coffee-prince.com/. Anyone's heard of anything else so far?

kami1969, that's why I wish more entertainment "news" sites cited their sources, because you can't tell the level of commitment with such a vague message as the one posted. I wouldn't get hopes up; that sounds like the standard wild speculation and talk that comes after every successful drama, but nothing hints at any deeper commitment or consideration. Sounds like loose talk to me, which is how I'll take it until I read something concrete.

i don't think there will be coffee prince season 2, unless with different cast. Different cast never works for me... Example: Goong S. Anyway, since Gong Yoo is leaving for the army, i doubt there will be CP season 2.

Thanks for all the patient posting. I really enjoyed your thoughts on the show.
By the way, this is driving me nuts. Anyone know what that bag is that Eun Chan carries sometimes? The one that she used to whip out the milk carton in that one scene at the apartment. The skinny messenger-ish bag. I love that thing.

I'm going to take this time now while listening to yet another song you've posted for me to grow even more attached to the Melody to thank you soooo much. If I had a hero it would be you. Scratch that you are my hero. Without you I would not have found any of this glorious music, nor would I have survived past the 13th episode of Coffee Prince because I was so anxious for it to come out with subs (which my sister got real upset with me because I knew what happened before she did, but you know what, she had 'better' *cough* things to do [like play with her bunny]) anyway.....so that's basically my long and rather ridiculous thank you......

Continuing my highly significant research announced in #13: though I was disappointed to see that no native speakers were willing to offer views on the laughter-sound doctrines of the Integrated Korean authors, I noticed this in the script for Insoon is Pretty (start of the first cafe scene)
상우 ; 하하, 달라지긴!
But what Kim Min Joon in the Sang Woo role says is very plainly 허허.
So -- Integrated Korean 1 : Sceptical Gramps 0 after that round.
I was really disappointed to miss out on a potential equalizer though. When Insoon trips and spills the contents of her bag in the employment agency, including what in those circumstances seems a highly suspicious item, she's anxious to assure everyone that's it's an innocent bread knife (as if we all carry those around), and the script has
인순 ; ...빵...(눈치 본다) 빵칼...이네......하하
But in production, the nervous laughter bit at the end was cut, so we never get to know whether Kim Hyun Joo would have turned it into an Integrated Korean Conformant "feminine" 호호.
I post this in this long-defunct sequence merely for the datestamp, so I can establish priority if I am ever considered for an Ignoble Prize for useless linguistic investigation.

What a refreshing drama - with incredible acting from the female lead actress, EH right? (see that i'm not even a kdrama fan but was immensely hooked by her acting)
Both of them do look compatible, don't they? and what i really like abt her is she's just so different from most of the K actresses, prob. due to her age ..Hopefully, EH will have more roles in the future - which brings me the my next question, why do the Korean actors and actresses seem like one-hit wonder (or is it that i haven't watched enough Kdramas) maybe Javabean can give some more insights.. and you are really good at what you do here!
